    congrats on your 1 year mark!! it must be big looking back seeing where you came from! it's honestly tough learning a language when you hop on an internship and unfortunately, it's that season again! also i dropped the hikaru challenge after 5 videos lol, not my type of content at all

    you should consider joining themoeway before you become one of the people in a long list of refold dekinai stories from buying into the snakeoil that listening to a bunch of incomprehensible gibberish will suddenly make you know japanese lol themoeway has multiple people in it that have gone from 0 to passing n1 in less than a year, so it's a trusted resource unlike refold

    Great video! I am around 4 months into refold myself with very little prior Japanese experience. Definitely can relate to almost everything you said here I started with jp1k also so we went down a very similar path. December being my 4th month I also went into it trying to better understand grammar cause I had the same problems as you. I read all of tae Kim but nothing really started to connect until I started watching cure dollys Japanese from scratch videos. If you can get past the annoying robot voice I strongly recommend watching her grammar videos as it really gave me a much deeper understanding of how and why Japanese works the way it does. Excited to see your progression in the future and good luck with your journey!

    aaa it's so interesting to hear you shared a similar experience! i actually did watch a few of the videos from japanese from scratch series right when i first started (literally like the first week or two). i spent way too much time trying to make sense of stuff my brain wasn't quite ready yet to process so i had to drop it. i think i'll jump back into watching them now that you recommended it. i forgot to mention it in the video but i also searched up the japanese equivalents of some korean particles since i'm already super familiar with korean grammar and a friend who studied both languages said they're quite similar - that also really helped with getting some foundational grammar understanding in the meantime. but i still have a long way to go though lol. wishing you the best with your immersion and hopefully you can drop an update comment as well next video!

    Thank you for sharing :) It’s nice seeing other people’s learning paths and it’s always good inspiration. What’s your opinion on KZread immersion Vs Anime immersion? You mentioned Aussie Man and I was wondering if you followed his advice about how “Anime is a bad immersion tool.” For me, I used to only immerse with anime, but then I switched to mostly KZread and I found myself to understand more of the content and enjoy myself more. I thought his opinion on that topic was interesting.

    I personally think it depends on your overall goals. I know some people learn Japanese solely out of interest of consuming media like anime, light novels, vns, etc - and mainly want to be able to gain full comprehensibility in said content. That being said if you don’t care about sounding like an anime character and lacking subtle social cues / manners when interacting with your average Japanese person, then by all means one can continue to anime only immersion. I know that sounded a bit harsh but I truly believe purely unnatural immersion wouldn’t led you to natural speaking off the bat. Of course, there’s people who do anime only immersion and have incredible Japanese, but they still have that period of having to unlearn unnatural speaking habits or might fall victim of saying phrases that are only found in anime. I think if speaking naturally is a huge goal for you, then I would prioritize KZread immersion above anything. There’s no problem with indulging in anime or other non natural sounding media (I sure as hell do), but I would make sure to balance that out with natural media like KZread videos or podcasts for passive listening.

    @@suaddosu I agree with you, it would be very bad to put all of your immersion towards unnatural Japanese if your main goal was to for example travel or converse with people online or in real life. But you are right it is preference and it’s alright to indulge sometimes (i do too.) Thanks for your opinion. I’m 5 months in and it’s a really big but really fun commitment

    @@t-sizzle219 oh you're about a month ahead of me! yeah honestly i think at the end of the day it's all about enjoying the process and journey. there's so much new media i've been able to enjoy since starting immersion that i wouldn't have discovered otherwise. let's just keep at it and have fun while making immersion gains lol

    Awesome video, thank you for sharing! I just started the Refold/MIA/AJATT method as well and I just passed the 1 month mark. I love watching progress videos as it makes me excited to see how far I'll get when I reach the 3 month/6 month/1 year mark. Could I also ask how you customized your Anki review cards? I feel like Anki would be much more enjoyable if mine looked like yours hahaha!

    thank you so much for watching and i hope your immersion goes well! (update videos also motivate me as well and it's nice to be able to track your progress over time haha.) as for my anki setup, for my general background i use an addon called "custom background image and gear icon" ( ankiweb.net/shared/info/1210908941 ) - with that you can customize your desktop anki software with a background image that honestly makes the interface feel not as boring to the eye. as for my cards, i honestly tinkered with the css from the JP1K deck and applied it to my newer decks. the code is most definitely not clean though (and there's also some bugs on ankiweb version with my own decks since it isn't properly overwritten on the old code). let me know if you want me to show how i create my cards or if you want me to paste my messy card code somewhere for reference, i'll be down to do that!

  • @erisukun

    @erisukun

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@suaddosu Thank you so much, I will check out that add-on! I don't use the JP1K deck so I didn't realize that most of your card's formatting and styling was based off the deck's defaults haha! Thanks, I'll take sometime to play around with the card styling too! I think it's definitely work making anki look good especially since we'll be staring at it for hours everyday for the next few months/years! If you could paste your code somewhere for reference that would be great! I'm also interested in where you got the card background image shown in this video. It seems like the vibes I'm going for :D

    @@erisukun Sorry for the delayed response! But here's the link for the my (messy) anki card template - pastebin.pl/view/6f5411f6 - it includes the code needed for the front, back and styling sections of creating a card type. As for the the image, i don't have the exact link but i'm pretty sure i just google searched pixel anime background or something along the lines of that and downloaded a hd image lol.

  • @suaddosu

    @suaddosu

    2 жыл бұрын

    yup i didn't do rtk or rrtk. the whole purpose of rrtk is to just be able be comfortable recognizing kanji and there's also the added benefit of being able to make a guess on what the kanji might mean. i was pretty much able to learn how to distinguish kanji without the use of rrtk through the jp1k deck (and it also saves time cuz i was also learning actual vocabulary as i was completing the deck.) of course there's nothing wrong with rrtk but i don't really think you should do it for more than a week. just gain a sense of kanji, then jump into doing a core deck + immersion.

    how did you make the VPN work for Japanese Netflix!?? I need that

  • @suaddosu

    @suaddosu

    Жыл бұрын

    hi! i'll list out everything below: for PC/windows i use "Softether" - www.vpngate.net/en/download.aspx - download the first link on the site listed above. afterwards launch the softether vpn client manager and double tap where it says "vpn gate public vpn relay servers". there should be a popup and you'll see all available servers you can connect to from multiple countries *** NOTE: most of the servers that start with "public-vpn-" tend to not connect well for netflix so i suggest avoiding all of them and use ones starting with "vpn" for macOS i use "Tunnelblick" + vpngate website - tunnelblick.net/ - www.vpngate.net/en/ - download and launch tunnelblick. similar to the note for pc, only look for servers starting with "vpn###" and select the link named "OpenVPN Config file". download the file under " DDNS hostname" and make sure to download the UDP. once downloaded, drag the file into the tunnelblick icon located on the top right of the menu bar, or manually import via tunnelblick and wait for connection
