Pot Noodles used to be strong and flavoursome, but about 15 years ago they removed a lot of stuff like fat and salt then added artificial flavours. I only eat Nissin noodles now, which I think are Japanese 👍

I actually really like the accent. While you can easily tell you're not a native speaker, I can definitely hear some very English sounding words coming through. Now I for one absolutely LOATHE Pot Noodles with all my heart and soul. I wasn't fond on them, but I used to spend a lot of time at a Riding school and the other kids like me used to live on the chicken and mushroom pot noodles in particular. DEAR GOD THE SMELL. It would make me sick to my stomach, even worse when they didn't clean out the rubbish and you'd have day old stale pot noodle smell in the tack room.

You are right about the amount of water. The directions tell you to put too much in. Bombay Bad Boy is the best one, but does not taste good if you put too much water in. Put enough to make more of a sauce than a soup and it tastes really good. If you have liquid sloshing around the bottom after you finish a pot, then use less water. When you open a pot, tilt and tap it so the stuff inside is at around a 45 degree gradient. Then pour in the water gradually, making sure to soak everything until you see the water level at the very lowest part. That is all you need.

After making a Balti Curry using an extra large jar of Balti cooking sauce, i only needed to use half the jar. So i had half a jar left over. So in the fridge it went for a couple of days while i thought of what to do with it. I just happened to see someone trying a spicy noodle soup on TV, and wondered what it would taste like if i added a Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle to the microwaved Balti cooking sauce. And i have to say, once both were cooked and mixed together, they tasted absolutely amazing. If you like spicy noodle soup, give it a try guys.

Take a trip to the coast and experience Jellied Eels, they are a traditional dish but an acquired taste. My understanding is that Japanese people eat a lot of fish, so Jellied Eels may not look as surprising to you as they do to people from other cultures..... I have American friends who couldn’t believed we ate them. I very much enjoy experiencing your insights into British culture so don’t forget there are traditional dishes from all over the UK: Haggis in Scotland, Laverbread (sea weed) from Wales and Soda bread (actually bread) from Ireland to name but a few. As well as many local dishes from different towns and cities. It looks like you’ve got a lot of eating to do. I look forward to learning more about your experiences, thank you for sharing.

its reminiscent of a more innocent time, one of the school meals was "curry" served with rice and chopped fruit. I remember the burning sensation and taste to this day. I would rather eat that than any dish that included brussels sprouts or boiled cabbage any day of the week.

The way to make Pot Noodles edible is to ignore the instructions & leave them for minimum 30 minutes, preferably 45. Yeah they go coldish but absorb all the liquid, increase like four-fold in size. Just add a bit boiling water & they’re a million times better. Almost like proper noodles. Plus add any other sh*t to improve the flaves .

So I have to agree with you in general. I always add stuff to a pot noodle to make them less weak. Foe example Beef and Tomato I’d add more tomato ketchup, half an oxo cube and some Worcestershire sauce. Defeats the object though of having a meal in a pot. It’s the only one I buy occasionally. I think originally there were few varieties - most of those came later. But the originals (from memory Beef and Tomato/ chicken and mushroom) have been going since the 70s. Back then, you would struggle to find a vegetarian meal/person. So the lack of meaty ingredients is more out of choice from the maker and not today’s society. Saying that, I don’t know if the recipe has changed over the years. Any Japanese noodles you can recommend that can be bought in UK?

From the brands I've tried so far, western brands of instant noodles tend to be very bland tasting or either mostly salt with not much else. The asian brands I've tried so far have been soooooo much more flavourful.

Except if you're not familiar with British labelling standards you would not understand that that means it allows the manufacturer to not have any of the headline product in the ingredients, any more than you would understand the subtleties of terms like "Juice Drink" being different from "Juice."
