I'm reading James Clavell's Shogun - for the 3d time. There are several things about the Japanese swords that amaze me. First, is the variety, that is, the different swordmasters whose names assign particular characteristics to the swords. Second, certain swords are more desired, depending on the maker. Third, they're honored and revered...dare I say almost sacred. Fourth, in Clavell's book, some are named due to their fame in battle, owner, or even for who it killed. I suspect this to be true in reality. Lastly, and certainly, very importantly, it's sharpness as evidenced by the video. (Too, their ability to remove heads rather quickly as described in the book.)

that's why mostly when samurai put his katana down in a relatively safe place, they put them on their left side (assuming he's right handed). but if the place are not that safe, they'll always put them in the right side

That hand switch is very awkward yet at full speed he flows like water. There seems to be some misunderstanding about this technique from reading the other comments. He is responding to an attack. As a demonstration of respect he is putting his sword in a place that makes it difficult to attack when sitting opposite another. This is a practice of sanchin, both beautiful and practical. Always be aware, not just in front but to the sides and the rear.
