Their whole catalog is pretty great. Kind of funny that you started off with one of their rare instrumentals. They are: Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - band founder, main lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals and spokespigeon. Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals, main music composer. Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, backing vocals, sequencing. Half human and half gorilla. Misa (ミサ, stylized as MISA) - bass, occasional assassinations. Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - main lead and occasional backing vocals. I like to say that other bands have hits. With BAND-MAID it's all triples and home runs. : )

This is what I consider to be a cultivated conversation among instruments in the most universal and beautiful language in the world that everyone understands. You just have to listen. :) And yes, this band also includes a fifth member. A vocalist from which you won't hear any screams or deep growls, but who is perfectly fitting for this kind of music. The individual talent of each of these ladies is already amazing, but what they create together makes even the biggest names of the last years/decades look pretty bad, imo. Sounds exaggerated or unbelievable? Then I would like to bring into the game the evidence pieces A and B, which are called 'Domination' and 'Real Existence' and are best to be watched live. :) Greetings and 'Welcome to the pigeon-hole' from the German Maidiacs division. _____________________ 【 _Our rock never dies ever. The competition between the bands in Japan is fierce so musicians must be incredibly good to be seen. When it comes to BAND-MAID, you've stumbled across a gold mine. All 5 girls are extremely tallented, something you will notice if you continue. The best part is that they do everything in their own way and every song you listen to will be different. They're simply amazing! One thing worth mention: They are a live band! Their brutal skill will really be seen there. I suggest you spend the next half year just listening to Japanese bands. Then you have just skimmed the surface and realized that there are an infinite number of bands that are good.

@@LostAgain1970 You might be surprised that the lyrics to some of the 'uplifting' music can be pretty dark. I heard that Racing into the Night by Yoasobi and CQCQ by Kami-Sama are about suicide. Both upbeat. There can be a disconnect between melody and lyrics for westerners.

Senri Kawaguchi is a jazz drummer and one of the finest female drummers in the world surpassing Akane and Haruna!! Yeah, Band-Maid is a hard rock band that can out-metal, out-punk and out-pop most other bands. Different songs will have different flavors of prog, funk, blues, what have you. Check out Different, Warning and Rinne for three different flavors of craziness. Then some more live stuff with Domination and Manners/Black Hole. Along the way, don't forget to look up some of the other all-women Japanese hard rock and metal bands that are kicking ass, like Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, Hangane and Gacharic Spin.

FROM JAPAN ◆ Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. BAND MAID is celebrating its 9th year of formation. BAND was formed by a girl who came to Tokyo from a local city of Japan to become a singer when she was about 19 years old. Five unique and talented girls gathered. The members have not changed, and they are continuing their efforts to improve their playing ability. They are constantly writing new songs and cool songs. Three new songs were released at the end of October. BAND MAID is a hard rock band, but it's a very diverse band. Listen to different types of songs. 1 Thrill : The first music video that saved them from dissolution. Classic rock 2014 2 Sense : The theme song of the anime "Platinum End". Dramatic, fast hard rock with a classic intro. 2021.10 3 Bubble : A tribute to the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, funky rock 4 Different : First anime opening song, new sense of high-speed rock. Anime is Log Horizon 3rd season. 2020.12 5 Daydreaming : Beautiful power ballad. Saiki and Kobato vocals and Kanami's guitar solo are wonderful. 6 Dice : Rhythmic hard rock singing women's independence 7 about us : A gift for fans who cannot meet in a pandemic. Beautiful ballad. 2021.02 8 Freedom : A power rock that walks around the stage and conveys a smile. The transition from drum solo to lead guitar is the best. 9 Manners : Declaration to create new hard rock while inheriting classic rock. Cool hard rock. Rock'n'Roll never die. 10 alone : The song they wrote, composed and released for the first time. Medium speed Hard Rock 2016 11 Secret My Lips & Secret Maiko Lips : Funky Hard Rock. A gift for fans of April Fool's Day . 12 Blooming : Vocals and chorus are impressive, and various types of music are fused. 13 RINNE : High-speed rhythmic heavy rock, inspired by the Japanese horror movie "RINNE : Reincarnation". RINNE (Reincarnation) is also found in Eastern thought and Buddhist thought. 14 onset : Instrumental song for lead singer Saiki breaks, their great playing power and harmony. 15 Play : A song composed as an instrumental song, but Miku added lyrics as Saiki liked it. With different intros depending on the live. 16 Before Yesterday : Record of the first overseas performance, Sakura-Con in Seattle 2016. Melodic Rock with great lyrics. 17 Choose me : An insert song of the concert scene the Netflix movie KATE, they appeared as BAND MAID. Cool rock song. 18 Dragon Cry : The only song produced by Tony Visconti. It's not their lyrics, but it sings about the future of human society and the earth. Great Heavy Classic Rock . 19 After Life : A homage to the maid cafe and band formation where Kobato worked. BAND-MAID Hard Rock . 20 Corallium : The song that Saiki wrote all the lyrics for the first time. Hip pop style dancing hard rock. Added ★ Peace & Love : Founder Miku Kobato's solo project. Pigeon saves the world. Funky pop rock.

This song gives me goosebumps EVERY SINGLE TIME. As others have noted, there's not one single "bad" song in Band Maid's entire catalog - which in itself is a remarkable feat - but as a lifelong guitarist, THIS one just blows my mind. It's a melodic tour de force powered by a ridiculously gifted rhythm section. You chose well - and I think you'll find their other work to be equally compelling.

I give it 11.2 points. That last 0.2 points are very important, although I'm not quite sure why, because there is no scale and nobody wins anything. Unless you count exceptionally great music. Congratulations on finding the best hard rock band in the world. Don't worry about what genre they're in though, although hard rock is their self proclaimed genre and indeed what I'd call them if I had to pick just one, but they veer all over the musical spectrum and they're very full of surprises. You haven't really heard them until you've heard a bunch of their songs, because they can be so different than each other. Songwriting prowess if off the hook awesome, and well.. you heard how good they are. Yes - they have vocals. You just happened to pick an instrumental song. The ice queen goddess with the best rock voice in the universe today, Saiki Atsume - and great backup vocals on many songs by band founder and rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato. Drummer Akane Hirose and MISA the bassist are f'ing unbelievably great - and then there's the mild mannered Kanami Tono who turns into a beast when you put a guitar in her hand (and is a genius songwriter). They have songs that veer toward speed metal, slow to mid tempo hard groove rock songs, proggy songs, beautiful ballads, and songs that have all of this in them and more. They tend to write music in a way that you never really know what's coming next - not just always verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge, etc. I haven't even looked at what songs the other commenters have suggested, but they are all correct. (BM doesn't have any bad songs). It's criminal (really criminal) that the entire world does not know this band. Yes, most of their lyrics are Japanese but who gives a crap; just pretend Saiki's voice is another instrument because she sounds that good. They also work their butts off and crank out music like crazy. Soon, you too may very well become a Maidiac.

THE best Rock band on Earth. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. @@tonygriffin_ The Tokyo School of Music is a vocational school. So it’s not like Berkeley or that level. You don’t have to go to a prestigious music school to be classically trained. Mincho was classically trained on piano from age three and continues to this day. MISA also began piano training from 3-4 years old. She stopped in middle or high school, but she and Akane moved to wind ensemble in middle/ high school. Akane played trombone and MISA played horn and trumpet.

Yes they sure do sing- they have an amazing lead singer- and amazing 2nd vocals (who was on stage here since she is also rythmn guitar) you just happened to start with one of their like 3 instrumentals out of like the 120 odd songs they have :) That they apparently made so the singer can get a break during their concerts :) Onset isnt even on an album! They do also have about another half a dozen songs they have done instrumental versions of too- but normally yeah Saiki is an amazing singer! And as you just saw- Band-maid are absolutely the real deal not any kind of gimmick- their maid outfits are part of their imagine, in the same way kisses makeup is, and to make a point - but not a gimmick in the sense of thats all they are. you'd be amazed how many old time rockers totally love them and rate them as the best or one of the best rock bands in the world :) And they also have some of the best musicians going - especially the bassist and drummer :) They formed themselves 8yr ago and did they whole tiny gigs thing and got better and better- they write their own stuff and are not in any way a studio made band. Their songs have a lot of different styles and influences- though they are a rock band, some songs have obvious punk or metal or pop elements. And they all go above and beyond what they need to in their songs. Dunno if you are a musician but musicians tend to totally love band maid too for the instrumental complexity and depth they have.

Time to start the journey. They're gonna surprise you with so many different styles of their hard rock sound, yet it's always well written. I'll let others fill in the details, but one thing I wanted to point out is that the lead guitarist, Kanami, does the lion's share of the songwriting. Rhythm guitar Miku writes almost all they lyrics. There's no wrong way to go now. They can hit you with a classic rock sound, a modern pop/punk sound, and even some progressive sounds. They do it all and dip in and out of genres even within a song, but they're usually always tied together by great hooks and choruses so that every song is enjoyable at a surface level too. There's too many to suggest, but one of my favorite songs is Blooming. You could go to just about any on their KZread channel and not go wrong.

The rhythm guitarist, Miku, is an amazing singer in her own right. She and Saiki sing lots of harmonies or Miku sings great backing vocals. In order to give Saiki’s vocals a rest during their live shows (servings), they write roughly one song per album where Miku sings solo. How cool is that!!! 🔥🔥🔥😎🤘🏼

Great reaction to an unusual choice of introductory videos to Band-Maid. Not often that a first-timer starts off with "Onset". I'm guessing whomever recommended you start with that masterpiece composition knew something about your preferences. Yes, that band has a fifth member, a lead singer whom was not on stage during "Onset". And she does not scream into mics. If you're looking for screaming, sorry, but this is Band-Maid. Heavy metal is down the hallway occupying in a different office altogether. As you mentioned, Band-Maid is different. If you want to hear melodic lead singing and fun vocal harmonies, then relax, you came to the right place. :) For your next Band-Maid videos, I strongly recommend songs with vocals, such as the official live "Play" and "Domination", and since you're a drummer, the official live "Freedom" features a drum solo.

Cool reaction! Onset is a really good instrumental, like you said, very groovy, catchy, upbeat, really great. BAND-MAID is currently my favorite band. What I like about them is their stylistic diversity, they are often hard rock/power pop based, but they incorporate influences from metal, punk, funk, blues and jazz. Their songs can be very fast, or very heavy, sometimes just pure fun or more emotional, etc, with always focus on catchy melodies and a very balanced songwriting, not always guitar centered with lot of room for the bass and drums to shine. Their music get accented differently in every song. The thing about their outfits is because their rhythm guitarist, Miku Kobato, worked in a maid café in Tokyo (which are very popular, especially among tourists) and she wanted to create a band with maid outfits (culturally associated with a more friendly, cute and submissive behavior) with rock music (associated to badass attitude), to create what she calls "the gap", in other words, a mental dissonance between what you see and what you listen. I really suggest you to dig more into them, they have really great songs. Check out these songs: Manners: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3qL16-xj9PReJc.html Warning!: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a614lauqoq_agM4.html No God: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWYudCCgs2tkc4.html And, about japanese rock, I think Japan has a really amazing bands that sadly have been criminally overlooked in the west. I've been listening to japanese bands from about 20 years ago and I really think Japan has one of the greatest rock scenes in the world. Obviously, like everywhere, there're many types of bands, multiple styles, all depends on what fills your taste. But, although there's a lot of bands, in general they have some kind of idiosincracy when making music, so the more you listen to them, the more you'll be able to recognize those elements (chord progressions, song structures) that are unmistakable japanese (the same happens to me when I listen to american pop music, the way they do things is clearly USA pop). Also there are some bands kind of gimmicky, but try not to let that divert your attention from the most important thing, which is music and there's a lot of really awesome musicians. Costumes or outfits are just part of the package. Puzzle is one of my favourites at the moment, Kanami pretty much solos all through the song and brings a bit of Angus Young and The Edge into her work on that one amongst other things. Also Turn me on which some people reckon has Metallica or Iron Maiden vibes, I'd go further back and say it's more Deep Purple/Black Sabbath feelings which would make a bit of sense as Deep Purple is a stated influence of theirs. Onset is fantastic but the full impact of BM comes out when Saiki is singing, takes it to another level. Oh and whenever you can find a live version, that's the way to go because they are in their element live.

Anything in the "rock" genre, they cover. Bluesy, stadium, shred, prog, ballad. All with a flare that you don't see often. Not only that, they are probably the most humble musicians I have ever seen. While at the top of their craft, they want to get better for the fans. There is so much to them. And they are just as good, if not better live as they are produced. Discovered this band about 2 years ago. They are amazingly good. This band led me to Lovebites, another all female Japanese band. Five petite ladies in dresses and high heels that play metal and are also god-tier musicians. The Japanese music scene is the second biggest in the world. Since they stress music in their schools, they produce a lot of great musicians.

This is the tip of the iceberg! Band Maid brought me to your channel. Great reaction, you will now be swamped by 'Maidiacs', people like me. Subscribed! These serioulsy talented ladies are all virtuoso's in their own fields. All their Offical Live Videos from their channel are AWESOME, and their MVs are superb. They incorporate everything from pop, funk. grunge, jazz, metal into their brand of Hard Rock and have some beautiful power ballads such as About Us and Daydreaming. Cheers and thanks from Australia!

Mate! Greetings from Shizuoka, just under the benign eye of Mount Fuji! Band maid lovers always have a great time watching and listening to a new reactor discovering this band out of nowhere! I am probably repeating a lot of comments but let me indulge in sharing the fun! It is actually a long story, and would you believe they are bigger abroad than in Japan? They cover too many genres to even start, but they will always have a new surprise with each song. They started back in 2013 and even their songs at the time revealed snipets of their talents. Add to this the typical Japanese work ethics Japanese and the obsession to never repeat themselves you are in for a long trip that many will be happy to share with you. To put it short it all started with Miku Kobato's (The rhythm guitarist and lyricist) dream to to create a "gap" with girls dressed in French maids outfits to better hit their fans into the face! She had actually tried her hand as an idol singer until then but got nowhere. She discovered Kanami Tono (lead guitar) through the internet who was at the time a song and music writer with classical musical education since the age of 4. She composes all the music on the piano first before making demos on the guitar and sending them to other members. Kanami introduced Akane Hirose as their drummer. Akane had already tried her hand in a few groups. She graduated from the Illustrious School Of Music in Tokyo. She can also play the trombonne and can sing. She introduced her classmate Misa (surname not disclosed for personal reasons) as the bass player. This lady is also multi-instrumentalist including the cello. She has developed this unique hybrid bass playing being able to play with a pick before snuggle inside inside her index to either finger or slap her guitar all the way down and up the frets klike a lead guitar. Kanami send her demos first to Akane and Misa to add to them in a fairly free manner and if needed later to Miku with her rythm part she will have to learn while writing the lyrics, usually in Japanese mixed some some English sentences/words. From the beginning Miku realised her voice alone would not fit the hard rock they wished to play and looked by herself for the right singer, a feat of altruism and lack of ego rarely seen in the world of rock! She discovered Saiki Atsumi, but had to trick her into the group as she knew she would not be tempted to wear a French Maid outfit. Actually the first thing she did was to throw away the apron! She is a very unusual singer in Japan with her almost a hoarse voice perfect for rock, but with a very wide range supported by Miku's harmonies. Actually the two of them form an unusual vocal duo in a band where everyone is equal, unassuming, incredibly shy at times. They just love each other and it shows in their songs. Saiki is the one who actually decides when a song is complete for recording or performing, otherwise they will never stop tweaking it! Last but not least, when Akane suggested they needed a rhythm guitar, Miku agreed to learn from scratch under Kanami's tutellage, and you listen too her now, you would ever believe she could not play a single note 8 years ago! But she put 8 hours of practice everyday even with bleeding fingers and bandaged wrists. Kanami now just send her her parts and get with it however difficult they are, leaving all Freedom to Kanami to play unending riffs and a destroying solo or two! Check this link for more complete profiles: kprofiles.com/band-maid-members-profile/ At the beginning Japanese companies would not let them record their own song until they finally with Alone. Since then they have walked their own path never looking behind with a discography of more than 100 pieces with at least half more in Kanami's computers! Onset was never put on record as it is part of of an interlude to let Saiki breathe and refresh herself during these mammoth concerts of theirs lasting over two hours with at least 23~24 songs, including two acoustic pieces. These are the basics but know that you have ensnared yourself into a bottomless abyss of bliss! LOL My personal (everyone will have a different one, because they do not have a bad song!) suggestion would be to react in order to Freedom, Domination, Daydreaming, Warning and Don't you Tell Me before immersing yourself into the rest! Take good care to yourself! Looking forward to your next reaction! Best regards, Robert-Gilles

Sorry mate… 1983 as the band’s start date is obviously incorrect…I assume it’s just a typo - just sayin’! Otherwise, a good background/overview of the ladies…!

If you like her drumming, check out Freedum (official live video) Her skill and power are awesome. there are other great live concerts such as Domination live, Play live, etc. you can see good interaction of vocals, instruments and crowds. on other hand, I recommend Sence, NO GOD, Warning, etc. as MVs, and many other exciting videos have been released. BAND-MAID is a hard rock band of all five women. they have a wide range of musicality, pop punk, metal, progressive, jazz.. and more. I think so BAND-MAID itself is a genre. Onset instrumental was played on the rest of the main vocal SAIKI.

It's your lucky day - to welcome this band into your musical life. It's an incredible band: extraordinarily diverse and prolific songwriting, with rare instrumental talent and chemistry. Main thing to take away: this band will make you smile, and then smile some more. For more metalish rock, check out Sense or Warning; for old school bluesy, The Dragon Cries; for live performance, Domination; for light and groovy, Bubble; for mad fun at 220 bpm, Black Hole; for proggy, No God; for ballad, Daydreaming, and so on... Crazy thing about this band is that probably a full half of their entire catalog includes someone's favorite song (yeah, I don't think they've written a band song yet, just one that may fall outside your wheelhouse given their diversity). Sub'd for more. :)

They do it all. My favorite band by far. They work constantly to put out new stuff. They have a deep desire to please their fans. They did 4 online streamed concerts during this whole lockdown mess. Released a 10 out of 10 album. And just keep doing more and more. They do sing as i'm sure you've been told by now. I could make suggestions but honestly they have so much music out i absolutely love that i'll let others handle that.
