What's special about this group is that they have been designing all their own choreographies since they were 14. They now even design choreographies for other groups. They also don't have a specific music genre, they do a lot of jazz fusion and punk and more recently have been working with the Beastie Boys producer Money Mark for the western market. They are NOT an idol group. Some have even called them an art project since it's so difficult to define them.

Awesome Reaction! I am a 45-year-old American rock musician and I just discovered Atarashii Gakko two months ago. They have something special about them. Obviously, I see the "Beastie Boy" influence in their style. But they are just so unique and positive. I think they are on the brink of mainstream American crossover. Which is amazing since the majority of their lyrics are Japanese. You should be proud!

They've got a short Japanese language cover of 'Intergalactic'. Definitely worth seeing. And the producer on their 'SNACK TIME' EP is Money Mark.

Thanks for pointing out things like the word-play on Tokyo Calling/東京降臨. In an interview they did for a NY Japanese language paper, they half-joked that they want to be known as “conceptual artists.” There’s always a little bit more to them than meets the eye. With hints like yours as a guide, foreign audiences can get even more context and fun from these fantastic artists.

The best moment in this video is at the end when Mizyu pumps her fist at OTA in the crowd as if to say "Yes, we've done it". Their N. American tour was small, but seems to have been very successful and the videos of the performances are awesome with AG really connecting with the audiences...especially Suzuka.

When I was a child, I used to watch all the old style Japanese programs on Saturdays. AG’s outfits and some video scenes in the MV are references to those old shows.

I saw this choreography of Tokyo Calling live at Hong Kong Clockenflap last month, and it floored me. Powerful song and performance; they’re really giving Perfume a run for their money when it comes to unique dance routines. So glad they are taking the world by storm.

If anything, as a half Japanese guy, I am happy just to see something that is extremely culturally Japanese on American live TV....However, the song rocks, the choreography rocks, their energy rocks.... I usually pass all these boy/girl bands as they usually sell beauty/sexuality and bla bla bla (nothing wrong with that), not exactly music, the girls in AG however are beautiful but also talented/unique and they do look "real" not fabricated....You gotta love them....

I first learned of AG when they appeared on JK's late show (this performance you're reacting to). I really enjoyed the song bought the single, and have since reviewed some of their other music which is great too! The new Flying High song I just heard today is my new jam. I really love what they do in their music videos as well. Very creative! I enjoyed this reaction video - Your pride and love for the band really came through!

They did an awesome performance. Triva - They loved San Francisco Sour Dough bread, especially as bread bowl with Clam Chowder soup!! I wonder how many US dance instructors have watched this?? My hope is they do the choreography for 1 of major Kpop groups, Twice is at the top of my list.

If you had a proud auntie moment, then I had a proud uncle moment. I really love how Tokyo Calling starts out with a sound-the-alarm vibe, and then transforms into a call-for-unity towards the end. From something totally negative to something totally positive.

I don’t understand all of what they are saying so I watch their videos with subtitles. They are true artists who write their own songs and choreograph their own dances. However what they are doing, their performances transcends.

I got into Atarashii Gakko after watching OtonaBlue. Suzuka without glasses reminds me of Riho Sayashi, former Morning Musume member and she had a temporary role as dancer in Baby Metal.

I think I first heard about Atarashii Gakko! on this channel and I have loved them ever since. I especially love the choreography videos on KZread. That being said, Suzuka's hair stylist needs to be slapped. She is not shown in any close-ups in this video, but her hair looks butchered and the "no eyebrow" look gives her no facial expressions. I will be ok as long as Mizyu doesn't do anything drastic.

  • @roberthradek7100

I think Suzuka is her own hairstylist. At least I know Mizyu cuts her own hair. But if Mizyu ever shaved her eyebrows, you wouldn't know it.

I'm happy Asian faces are finally beinf taken seriously. It's amazing how as a kid slanted eyes were considered unattractive and now girls in Los Angeles are trying to look more Asian. *Sad story. My doctor said my eyes were deformed and I needed glasses. Despite having 20/20 vision and my eyes being slanted like 田鍋梨々花。
