Japanese Maki-E Lacquer Box For Emperor
Japanese Emperor Taisho personally commissioned this exceptional lacquer box as a special gift for his family, almost certainly his son, the heir to the throne, to commemorate the Emperor’s coronation anniversary. Inlaid with the Chrysanthemum seal of the Imperial house, the maki-e masterpiece is beyond extraordinary. Still in exquisite condition, it also possesses its original silk packaging and wood shipping box, as well as an inscription that translates to “A gift from Emperor Taisho to the Takamatsunomiya family (the Emperor’s family name given to his son).”
