Japanese Butoh Movement

WORLD PREMIERE: FALLING OUT
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 8 PM & SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 7 PM
Falling Out combines three types of performance art, including butoh: a form of Japanese dance that arose in the aftermath of the bombings of Hiroshima, characterized by slow, hyper-controlled motion.
Phantom Limb Company set out to explore an understanding of the craft and underlying principles of butoh, and demonstrate the ways in which butoh and puppetry can be harnessed in service of a larger discourse around climate change through collaboration with butoh dancer and choreographer, Dai Matsuoka of Sankai Juku.
