+Tattle Boad I read Japanese prisons are harsh and strict, and those legal rights that you enjoy in the US and elsewhere (protection from self-incrimination, double jeopardy, fair trials and etc) don't apply in Japanese law. BUT they don't have problems with illegal activity and human rights violations that American prisons are notorious for. And their prisons aren't overcrowded tl;dr it ain't the Hilton at all, but you'll leave with your booty intact

The important part is "UP TO 10 years". I.e. the maximum sentence. I.e. if they arrest you and find that you are part of a criminal gang or something. They wont put you in jail for 10 years if you record 30 seconds on your phone or some crap.

Mulinaster The times do not require a law that obliterates someone's savings and one 8th of their life because someone fucking copied something. people do not lose that much money from piracy. hell, even if they did, it's still no fucking reason to RUIN SOMEONE'S LIFE. hell, look at the music industry! they adapted, a lot of their profit is now based around the ads on videos and they still sell CDs and records while getting major dosh from them, too. why? because people want good music and they're willing to pay for it. the movie and video games industry refuses to change and they lobby for laws and practice shitty practices that fuck over the consumer in the process and thus loses them money, which they blame on piracy. the music industry is thriving despite piracy being real because they adapted to the market. please, for the love of god, get your head out of your ass. this law is not a necessity, it's a fucking nuke when a flyswatter would have done just as well. if you don't adapt to the market as a business, you die. some businesses don't want to accept this fact, so they lobby shit laws like this that do more harm then good.
