Japandi Interior Design

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I like to think of Japandi as wabi-sabi with warmth. Japandi is a recent interior design trend stemming from the fusion of Japan & Scandi (Scandinavian) design. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic term alluding to the beauty of imperfection or rustic elegance...

I think you outlined this interior design style so well and delivered it in such a nice voice volume and cadence. All of your words of description are spot on and explained in a simple easy to understand way. A fresh new explanation, different from most other videos I have watched. My only dislike was that it was over in under six minutes. 😉 New sub here.

This fits me with just a little more rustic. I add my Indonesian carved teak items and Africana to the mix.

Not just design. Japanese and Scandinavian culinary traditions are actually very similar as well.

I'm very familiar with Japanese cuisine but I would love to dive into Scandinavian cuisine as well. I'm guessing they have a lot of fresh fish and curing as well with the cold winters.

@ShizenStyle also interesting pickles. Other dishes seem to use different ingredients to come up with a similar end product (example- traditional cucumber rolls don't look particularly out of place on a sushi platter).

Thanks for the informative video! I wasn't familiar with the concept of wabi-sabi and always felt puzzled by the price tag of some japanese teaware that had seemingly been made by children. Now I can at least appreciate what the style stands for even though I'll always stay biased towards actual elegance and refinement. Although, I must admit that I love kintsugi...

Everyone has their preferences. Kintsugi is really nice though, a great blend of creative styles and rustic/modern.

Hygge is not a scandinavian concept, it's a danish and norwegian concept. In Sweden, that word isn't used... @1:50

Thanks for your comment. I understand it's a Danish and Norwegian word but according to the Modern Dane: "Perhaps the most well-known Scandinavian concept, hygge (pronounced hue-gah) refers to a sense of cozy togetherness or feeling content with the present moment..." www.moderndane.com/blogs/the-modern-dane-blog/nordic-know-how-hygge-lagom-and-more-scandinavian-concepts-explained . A number of places refer to it as a Scandinavian concept.

I enjoy watching your videos and have a question. I hope it doesn’t come across as rude, is there a reason why you film yourself in such a strange close up and angles? You have a great aesthetic in your B-Roll and then an awkward shot of just your head. And of you have a shot with your shoulders in it you have a lot of space above your head and it looks like you’re on your tip toes to be in the shot. Everything else makes your videos look professional, but those shots of you are a bit awkward. I don’t mean to be offensive.

Thank you for your comments, not rude at all. In the beginning, I really wasn't paying attention to my head height , but it's something I'm trying to work on now. My lens focal length was also off but hopefully little by little things are improving.

We’re the branches in the vases real or faux? If faux, where can you find them?

  • @ShizenStyle

Many of the branches are real, the cheapest thing is to gather some throughout the season in your local area. But I think I have seen some interesting shaped one at places like Pier One Imports or maybe even a craft store.
