Hi Joel, I visited Kyoto in 2014 and I have to say, Fushimi Inari was my favourite spot in the whole city. The bottom section of tori gates can be quite crowded, because many tourists don't go past it, many just want the Insta shot. Like you did, you have to push on up the hill and see the whole complex to appreciate it. Its totally worth a 1/2 day visit, 2 hours isn't enough.

For sure! I think it was my favourite part of Kyoto too! And as you say once you push up and walk further you lose others and it’s peaceful!

Kyoto has an ordinance that prohibits the construction of high-rise condominiums and high-rise buildings in order to protect the scenery of the city. The ancient capital Kyoto, which was the capital of Japan for 1000 years, is exceptionally beautiful.

True. Also, Kyoto is strict with signage and advertisements, the colors and size are restricted. That’s why you won’t see in-your-face billboards in the city. The gov’t wants to preserve the atmosphere in the ancient capital. But obviously, there will be a lot of tourists there. But remember that you are also a tourist, so you’re contributing to the crowd yourself 😂

Hi there, I saw the title and got very angry at first because I loved Kyoto and that spot, but after watching the video I'm alright🤣 I don't know how I missed the bamboo forest, but I'm saving your video to check the forest and the food places you showed if I visit again. Thanks! I've been at the Fushimi Inari shrine around 1pm last month during the golden week, and it was busy on the ground, but as you go higher to the top of the mountain, there are fewer people. It's actually very peaceful and calm, so I enjoyed it. Doing a full circle with some stops to take pictures and explore different levels took around 4 hours. Also, I would probably go there on my last day in Kyoto, because after going up hundreds or maybe thousands of steps and then the same on the way down - my legs were quite tired and I felt that especially on the next day. I recommend taking a compact umbrella with you in case there's rain in the forecast, although the weather was perfect initially, I got soaked on my way down. And definitely take cash with you, they don't accept debit cards or even IC cards on the mountain, and there are many small shops where you could buy some interesting souvenirs, have a breakfast/lunch, or drink some tea.

    コンビニエンスストアは高いので普段ほとんど利用しません。スーパーに行けば天丼や鰻丼、お安い物が盛りだくさん。スイーツも美味しくて安い物が沢山有ります。是非利用されてはどうでしょうか?

Coming from Los Angeles, Kyoto was amazing. We had just come from Shinjuku and it was half as packed. No skyscrapers or big towers. Definitely a breath of fresh air. We just left June 5th. Would recommend Nara if possible. The deer park was hugge.

Check weather report when you visit the bamboo forest , it’s best to visit when it’s have some wind blow through , especially windy day on summer help to cool you down , the sound is magnificent . Best way to visit Kyoto is used the local bus , ticket is 500 yen a day unlimited used , don’t use the hop on hop off 3500 yen . The local bus is right in front the station , you can find it easily and have guide station staff help you .

The busiest places for me were Nijo Castle and the Bamboo Forest. When I walked away from the tourist area Arashiyama was pretty nice though. I think places seemed more busy in your video but I did go in a different season and 2018. Personally I loved it.

Kyoto is a amazing place to visit, it looks like from this video that they only managed to 3 of the most obvious tourist spots and they only had 2 days. If you want to get a real feel of Kyoto and the cultural sites, I would suggest staying 4-5 days, there are so many other temples that you could visit to get that same or more authentic vibes and a lot of really amazing scenery you can experience not only in the center of the town…

_"You have to literally translate everything..."_ Yeah. Now do what it's like for a Japanese visitor to the UK. In fact, the main parts of Kansai/Kanto have loads of signage in English. And, outside of a little bit in Heathrow, the UK has ZERO signage in Japanese.

the worst destinations in Kyoto are Bamboo forest, Fushimi inari shrine, Kinkakuji and Kiyomizudera. but everybody goes to same places. Dont go there! there are more beautiful temples and shrines in Kyoto. you can really feel real kyoto. tranquility, calm and zen vive!

BIG TIP: If you need trash bins, they are at the convenience stores. Be careful of ‘segregation’ though, depending on garbage type (plastic, burnable, bottles, etc.)

It's a religious place, it was never meant as a tourist attraction! You went there with the wrong expectations. If you want to be entertained, go to Disney Land, or Universal Studios.

It is true that Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido are very beautiful, fun and attractive cities, but there are quite a lot of tourists and are crowded. If you want to enjoy the rustic and calm atmosphere of Japan at your leisure, we recommend Yamagata , where foreigners don't often go.

Frankly, for Japanese visitors the single most disappointing thing about Kyoto is that there are way too many foreign tourists. It destroys the ambiance and culture of Kyoto.
