    このロケットで特筆すべきは、第一段で使用のメインエンジンはエキスパンダー・ブリード式のロケットエンジンで、この方式のものとしては世界で初めて推力150トンを実現したことです。 それまでは、サターン5の第2段J-1の推力100トンが限界でした。
