Japan's FIRST EVER Mid-engine sports car with V6 engine swap

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Did you know that the MR2 was Japan's first ever mid-engine sports car?! I totally didn't. I had no idea and still have no idea about the MR2 series, but when George hit me up on Insta, I saw his custom work and love for his car I had to get him on the channel to share his story.
Everything about this MR2 was done in his garage, long days, late nights, researching engine stuff and harmonics to make his own exhaust, this thing was made out of complete love and passion.
The V6 engine coming from a freaking TOYOTA CAMRY??? with the camry gear box... this car sounds bloody amazing, its so hard to believe that this engine was pulled from a mass produced car, and a completely un-sporty car at that. Or maybe, George's work with his exhaust is just that good

Thank you so much for showing interest and making this video of my car. I really appreciate it and also enjoyed seeing someone else behind the wheel and being able to experience why it gives me so much joy to drive it but also work on it!

Great little car! It sounds so smooth! I made my 1mz headers unequal length. It's a very different sound (vids on my channel if you'd like). I didn't see it or hear it mentioned, you're going to want an accusump or equivalent. I used a 3qt moroso accumulator. The oil pickup is not in the lowest part of the pan and the rear head has bad drainage. You'll grenade your engine with sustained hard cornering and oil starvation, the oil accumulator is the endurance racers trick to make these last. Other really good mods for these cars is a quaiffe quick steer rack and a limited slip. I used a TRD helical from a c60 in my s54 transmission, not sure what's compatible with the E series trans.

@Krautastic to be entirely honest, if this grenades, then im highly considering swapping it out for a 2arfe and building it for boost. But untill that happens im going to continue mucking around with it, im working on a ct15b turbo setup for this as it is. See how long she goes for lol.

Great build George!! I can appreciate the effort of this custom build. Must’ve taken so many hard hours of sweat and tears. If you’re married, I was wondering how the missus felt about this build! 😂 Big respect on the build and all the custom work. To me, you’ve build a 90s Toyota version of the NSX. The v6 sounds amazing!!! Have you considered supercharging? Similar how lotus uses the v6 from the Camry and supercharging it. (You probably have, given your KZread name lol). Hats off to you sir!

@WazzA-xp7zz hahahaa yeah i am, wifies pretty cool about it though, and im in the midst of building another motor for some healthy boost levels. Turbo> supercharger lol, way more efficient, and as for the name, the mr2 was an original supercharged model lol, i tried my best to keep it original lol
