Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a temple located in Kiyomizu, Higashiyama District, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It was built by the people of Yanzhen around 778. The mountain name of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is Mount Otowa, which is mainly dedicated to Thousand-Armed Kannon. It originally belonged to the Hosho Sect but is now independent and has become the headquarters of the Northern Hosho Sect. Kiyomizu-dera Temple, along with Kitayama Roenji Temple and Arashiyama Tenryuji Temple, are the most famous places of interest in Kyoto. Pilgrims or tourists come here all year round.
