Just letting everyone know: the immigration is still a little bit of a minefield to get through everything but we arrived through it all easily enough. We got off the plane at 8am and left the airport at around 9.20am. Not too bad and they have a tonne of helpful people along the way to guide you through.

Hi Kim! Thanks for the tips. We met on the train back from Miyajima in the Summer of 2016. I watched many of your videos prior to that trip, as well as my subsequent trip to Japan. Excited to see more content!
Now we are talking because Kim Dao is back on track. I used to watch her Japan videos before the pandemic that is how I was preparing for my trip to Tokyo . And here she is again ,more mature and pretty than ever before . I think that I am going to plan my trip to Japan soon again.

I arrived in Haneda last week. When I first scanned my Suica card stored on my iPhone at the Keikyu line ticket gate, it got rejected. Apparently the card was locked as it hadn't been used for almost 3 years. The train station customer service reactivated it and it's working fine now. The card balance from 3 years ago is still intact 😊

Soly Hhit! A new video from Kim DAO!!! I'm actually surprised because I was wondering why I haven't seen any new video from you.
If you want to charge cash on your SUICA card or app, you can do so at any major convini, AT THE REGISTER counter. No need for all that hassle. You just tell the convini clerk what you wanna do (and make sure they know you're talking about SUICA) and they'll tell you where to put your phone or card which is right at the register, you then give them the cash.😉
@bubbledoubletrouble

“NO need for all that hassle” Ultimately, dealing in cash is a lot more hassle than just using a no-fee credit MasterCard or Amex on your phone. Sure, there’s an exchange rate involved, but unless you’re getting paid in yen… you’re going to have to deal with an exchange rate at _some_ point.

SUICA works very well on overseas iPhone, mine is from SG and I'm able to charge it at JR Ticket machines at stations with cash. I also struggled with old SUICA, when I moved here, but once I got a new SUICA card and registered to my wallet (removed the old one), it works fine including topping of the card. And as Kim said, we can also get it top up at 7-Eleven ATM but process is not fast. Thank you agian

It is not because of your international iphone. You need to change the setting thats all. You could have asked a train staff near the entrance gate. They would help you in general.

Also just keep in mind that Japan uses a different NFC system called FeliCa so for those of us with Android phones you won't be able to use Suica from your phone (most of us, I've heard some can). It's not that hard to just use the card tho, especially if you're just here visiting 😊!

thanks so much for sharing this! what about cash payments in small restaurants? I remember a lot of places only take cash. Is that still the case now? thank you! enjoy your time in JP!

This video is so helpful!! thank you!! im travelling to japan next month and is going to stay in a hotel in roppongi, its about 3-5mins walk from roppongi station. i dont really drink and party, yet wondering if it is safe to stay in roppongi as ive heard of some scary news
I'm going to wait a bit before I come back over. I'm not sure whether I'm going to come for a short trip or a longer trip. I've wanted to do a 90-day stay before as I did 3 weeks my last trip and it didn't feel enough. But I have friends who wanna go and can only make it out for a week or two at most and want me to be their guide. So idk really depends on some factors.
Thank for all the Tips! We have a layover in Narita. We are thinking about ditching our final destination. Do you know if we can do that?
I thought the video title was about closed/reopening tourist sites and the loss of many unofficial 'highlights' in and around Tokyo. A lot of stuff has gone. The famous advertising signs in Shinjuku and Akihabara have been removed, Odaiba is a shadow of itself. Teamlab Borderless has closed and is now reopening at its new location at the Toranomon-Azabudai Project end of 2023. If you had a list of 'things to see/do' in 2020 or have been planning using older webpages/KZread videos, you may find those places/things don't exist anymore. Check before you book because your plans may alter quite a lot. It's not just tourist places that have closed. Hotels, bars, restaurants, game parlours, cafes, live venues.... Be prepared to see a different Japan than what you may be expecting.

teamlab planets is still open until 2023 according to their website (i went to planets the last time i went to japan, never went to borderless) i never really liked shinjuku or akihabara so that isn't a problem for me either. i'm sure a lot had to change to reduce crowds which is understandable. it would be nice for her to do an update video on popular attractions and how covid rules have changed them though. it would be very helpful

To add to luggage; I reached out to JR customer service. They confirmed that you can have 2 bags over 160 but under 250 CM. They also confirmed that there are no individual restrictions on the A. B or C dimension. It only matters if it is over 160 CM total.

I heard about the first one and downloaded the sos thing (along with another app someone else recommended). I have no problems with 5, I haven't stopped wearing one haha.
I had similar issues lately charging my SUICA card using Apple Pay with a Canadian Visa. Apple Pay -> SUICA works fine with Canadian Mastercard.
