The jobs in Central bank of Nigeria, NNPC, NDIC, FIRS, NIMASA, NPA, PPPRA, LNLG, NIRSAL,NEITI, Sovereign wealth fund, Tetfund, DPR, PENCOM, NCC, AMCON, NAPIMS, Customs, NFIU etc are reserved for the children of politicians, obas and emirs who don’t only need those jobs but are all not qualified. Their politician-parents exchange favors sharing jobs opening for their kids amongst themselves.. Their children whom mostly can’t pass the necessary university entrance exams called jamb, circumvent the system to seek admission in Kenya, Ghana, Benin or the UK, only to come back to take up a lucrative govt job waiting for them leaving the brightest graduates whose parents have used all their life savings to fund their education and have passed all the exams but left to scavenge on the streets. The drive to japa is even fueled by the disappointment these kid see on their parents who are mostly retired knowing that it’s your time now to give back, but the more you look at the horizon the less & less any sign of hope abound in the future. Japa has only just begun.

​@@petraravn5421 The mentality is one of "every man for himself". This is made worse by the masses seeing the privilege and unlawful influence of those in authority. This breeds mistrust. Let me put it this way: if a typical Nigerian rises up to challenge the status quo, he's probably using that as a pretext to acquire power for personal gain or will be betrayed by members of his movement. There's no collectiveness or equivalent of the American Dream. My only concern is that those who opt to leave do not bring such attitudes to their host nations. But hopefully, institutions in developed nations are more resistant to such influences.

​@petraravn5421 The system in Nigeria is rigged for any Nigerian to change the situation, I for instance finished studying my 1st degree in Architecture and Masters since 2020... It's been four years now I can't boast of settling down and having my own family anytime soon, same experience with most of my colleagues after graduation... the corruption and ineptitude of the political class with their greed is almost impossible to change the system. The only thing to change Nigeria is something really drastic that has never happened before that will reset the political and sociological state of the country.

@WillieClark-bw1bx see, I was all for this until I realised people from the grassroots are being compromised. What you've highlighted is easier in a society with one voice, which this isn't. I lost a friend, a really good product designer in 2020, during the protest against police brutality only for certain people to trivialise the incident (almost as if saying "who sent you"). My friend's gone, but the country's gotten worse. There's a line in the national anthem that says, "The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain" I'm an agent of change and I believe in a working system but you can't give to a place where there's no acceptance, I will not be UDP'd when I can be TCP'd, I will not allow my past, present or future labour be in vain, I've got so much to offer I do not plan to beg to offer it.

I'm jealous, I live in one of the "good places" in Nigeria and we hardly have electricity for more than 10hours each day. You guys should keep it up and hold your leaders accountable. I love it👍

How can a country like Nigeria blessed with Natural resouces and one of the most hard-working and smart group of people on earth suffer so much and allow other Countries to take advantage of their skills. All Nigeria need is to improve the living conditon of the people. Like providing electricity, good drinking water supply, good hospital and health clinics, Security and basic infrastructures. Nigeria has the money and skill. These things are not difficult to obtain with good leadership. These Contries Nigerians move to want their skills but also have their own disadvantages to immigrants. Some Contries in Asia like Singapore have improved the living conditions of their people, and you don't see people leaving these Countries. No place is better than your home and your ancestral family. It is a high price to pay. Countries in Europe and America are taking advantage of the good Skills of and English speaking countries like Nigeria .

As an "ePublishing Expert" solving a problem here in Nigeria with my skill, gives me a sense of fulfilment...JAPA is the least of my challenge right now. I don't even want to hear it.

That's better than relocating abroad and making more money but having to pay bills at a higher expense. Not everyone wants to japa. Not everyone thinks it's a solution. So in a nutshell, take responsibility for your life - get your brain out of the gutter and learn some high value skill that you can be paid big bucks for and most importantly, stop blaming politicians for your problems. I have noticed a very common thing when it comes to this topic and it is that it is mostly always those who have it better off that are against the idea of leaving the country. Please not everybody has it rosy a you do. I am studying abroad and making crazy money working only part time and can support my siblings who are in school and parents as they are as good as unemployed. You're oversimplifying a very complex situation and not even considering that Nigeria has a very appaling economy for its population. A country of over 200 million which earned less than 500 billion dollars in 2021, the state (mind you, I said state here not country) of Bavaria in Germany for example earned around 700 billion dollars, and that is not the only one. (Germany by the way has only about 83 million people as of now). Only an unfathomable amount of change is what is going to happen for Nigeria to get better. And NO, those people don't have misplaced priorities. That is even the funniest to say considering the current state of the country and the assurance of things going only in one direction - downwards and worse

I respect all Nigerians who leave for a better life. I have done the opposite and returned. They will see that the west is in decline, I have been watching it for the past 15 years, COVID has increased the pace and now these wars funded by the US in Ukraine and Israel have accelerated the decline further. I am quietly buying land and strengthening ties with my family and neighbors. Once we remove Tinubu and replace with a competent leader (Obedient), even the world will see and everyone will come flooding back. We are on the verge of a revolution because the inept ruling class has finally pushed the population to this point. As ECOWAS dies and the immergence of the Allegiance of Sahel States replaces it, West Africa will make an astonishingly swift return to grace and I plan to be sitting comfortably when that shift accelerates. I used to say maybe in my lifetime, but now I can see the shift will begin in the next 5-7 years.

I was in abroad and every struggle we have here, they have there, it's simply different. I simply decided to be with my people and see if I can be apart of something for us. There, you work for those people and you see how they look down on us, even the "progressive/liberal" ones. Anyway, we will all see with time. We may never get out of this governance problem, I simply chose to believe we will, and soon.

God knows I want to live a happy and dignifying life here in Nigeria, but seeing the way things have become, I can't help but contemplate on the possibility of japa. But what happens when we all leave? What will be left for the future generation of Nigerians? Are we still gonna be looking at our politicians destroying the country and say we are safe abroad?

Out of 200 million. It’s still minuscule. Most Nigerians will try to make it work within Nigeria. One reason is due to the lack of choices, but they will still try to make it work in Nigeria.

There are talented individuals in nigeria who make millions with their digital skills online and sell digital products, As an Entrepreneur the large population should be an advantage and not a problem....an Entrepreneur sees a large population and saturation as an opportunity to innovate 😊 ... But another person sees this same situation as a problem and wants to run away.😂 Two different mindsets shaped by the media...the media has a huge part to play in the negative mindset shift of 90% of those who are running away,....they do not understand the power of the media in shaping mindsets. only doctors have some valid reasons...the majority of those who are running away have no digital skills!

It’s God who gives us the Ability/Power to gain Wealth, (deu 8:18). Pray and fast ask him to show you the way. I’m American I’ve had the pleasure of working with many Nigerians in nursing, they are very miserable here. Work Mon-Fri 12hrs or 16 hours a day, no social life only church if they go, the schools here are horrible. I could go on, but I’ve said enough. Let the Lord lead you, not Man.

My goodness, just stay and build your country so you don’t have to flee. No one is obligated to let you come into their country and take part in their economy. And let’s be real, most of the folks that leave don’t go back. You’re also part of the problem. Where is the nationalism? You think these other countries have never fallen on hard times? They’ve just had more time to work out their issues. In stead of fighting and struggling like most people of other nations who have built something, you want to escape. And let’s be real, most who flee don’t go back. But I get it, it’s easier to do that than actually sacrifice and try to build something for future generations. Trust me, these other countries don’t want to see hundreds of Nigerians show up at their doorstep just because they want a better life. That’s not their problem and they’re not obligated to take you in. A nation looks after its own people first and foremost.

Lets start with the obvious, I doubt if more than 2-3% of Nigerians (4-6M) will ever travel out of the country in their lifetime!that includes those in other African countries on the continent. Travel is expensive! The skilled workers outside will never exceed those inside the country, we like them to leave so they can send back forex remittances 🤣🤣. Some reports make it look like 90% of the country is emptying out-its nation of 200-220 Million souls travelling isnt a walk in the park!!

They should have done a better job of describing the term “japa”.

Let's face it, people with lighter skin are treated differently (usually better) than those without it. I'm naturally lightskinned so I know all about the "privileges" that come with it. Just look at many Nigerian celebrities today and look at their throwback pictures. You'll realise there's an economic reason for bleaching.

They are not leaving because of starvation and lack of work they want to get paid more. They don't study for the work needed in Nigeria I call this (educational laziness) most study for graphic design instead of electrical and infrastructure engineering a job desperately needed in Nigeria, then complain about the Chinese working and paving roads. Its obvious they are looking for a easy life others struggle to have fighting to change laws and build education equality they call Black Americans privileged and lazy when it was them who marched and fought for freedom in America so they can come get a equal education. Now that the black diaspora are traveling to Africa investing I have hope for the continent we as black people know the true value of having a country you can call your own.

I graduated highschool and have multiple trainings and was never diagnosed with a mental health issue to claim ignorance. The truth is whenever a situation doesn't uplift or help an idealistic stupidity of a certain person's interest name calling becomes the escape. Facts Nigerians who travel abroad rarely give back to their country educational or physically the men and women mainly the women pride themselves on interracial relationships with the same people who oppressed their countries. They call Black Americans lazy and privileged while enjoying the very privilege these people fought and died to accomplish, they don't welcome diaspora and have an issue with Chinese business and builders in Africa, once again where is the ignorance one sided lies have I told please explain?
