    I bought this Jansen chipper this year and it's a great chipper not only can you take it straight to where you are working it also goes on a trailer . the only modification I would suggest to Jansen is where the hopper is directly below is the starter etc with wires exposed which possibly could get damaged with branches falling. so I have made a plate like the one in the video. great little machine steve

    For all those commenting on the fact that his hand goes in past the flaps, please be aware of this. As users of these machines we understand that from a distance this may look dangerous to the viewer. However. A: your arm will never reach the blades, it is not even nearly long enough. B: anything catching your sleeve has no chance of pulling you in to the chipper. Even your own body weight without the use of force will not allow you to be pulled over the edge. Your sleeve will tear off if caught and at full stretch you cannot reach the blades. C The pick handle is a great idea for private use but... from many years of commercial experience this will only work on some things. Not practical. A cut Y shaped branch is sometimes very handy for pushing smaller stuff. And provided for free by the tree you are chipping. To call this stupid and dangerous simply demonstrates a lack of knowledge of the safety limitations of this machine. People have been pulled in and died using bigger chippers but IT IS A PHYSICAL IMPOSSIBILITY WITH THIS ONE. The way he is using this chipper is perfectly common to all professional tree surgeons and landscapers i know and there are no recorded instances of anyone being injured in this way with these machines. Good job kid who is operating. Great work enthusiasm also. I’d give you a job anytime.

    I’m in the market for a replacement chipper of this size. This is coping well with conifer but with a 40 year old ash? My guess is it will struggle unless a great deal of time is spent cutting it down to much smaller pieces. Anyone out there had one of these for a while and can comment?

    I purchased one of these earlier this month, and began chipping brush and branches that had been sitting in a pile for a year. It chipped them up, but the material got clogged in the ejection chute and had to be extracted by hand (with the machine being off). When I ran fresh-cut spruce branches through it, the result was just like in this video. But when I went back to running through the dry material, it clogged once more. Does anyone have a similar experience, and is there a solution to this problem? Thanks.

  • @garymontesano5903

    @garymontesano5903

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@simonparry3823 Since the blades were preset at the factory to the proper specifications, there was no reason to mess with them. Instead I fabricated an ejection chute to replace the original one (which I still use for green material). This chute is made with plywood and has no neck to speak of, the less than one foot trajectory being as much vertical as it is horizontal. So this has nicely eliminated the clogging problem. In addition, I had replace a couple of pneumatic wheelbarrow tires with foam core tires (no more punctures from dried blackberry thorns), so made an axle using a three foot length of all-thread mounted to the frame and attached the tires so the machine is easier to transport, either by hand, or with my truck to other areas of my small acreage, using a hitch I had previously fabricated for my wood splitter. Through all of my early difficulties with clogging, and my many calls into Jansen, they were of no help whatsoever. I would not recommend doing business with these people. I have since learned there are other outfits from which this machine can be purchased. Good luck.

    My thoughts exactly, makes me wince just watching. Dude, please, NEVER put your hand past the flap curtain inside the mouth! All it takes is one branch to pinch or grab your glove or sleeve, & that's it. Some years back, in our city, an 18 year-old kid was killed doing this on his first day on the job. It was a much larger machine than this, & pulled his entire body through, nothing left. And the owner/operator was so traumatized by the accident, he suffered a heart attack. When you need to push stuff in further, always use a sacrificial wooden push stick, just like on a table saw. The handiest I've seen was a pick handle with heavy dowels glued into criss-crossed holes drilled through the heavy end. The dowels were trimmed just long enough to hit the sides of the tapered intake chute, & stop the handle a few inches before it hit the cutter wheels. That should be a mandatory safety procedure when running this machine, & guarantee you'll always be able to hold two bewbs at the same time..;)

The manufacturer wrote to me saying the set-up time is 2-4 hours; not 1/2 on one seller's site. And that people who swap the engine out for a 24HP are asking for trouble. Happy chipping
