Most definitely. I’ve been hooked on his grooves since I first heard Oil on Canvas in ‘86-been a big fan ever since. His beat on Taking the Veil is sublime.

Someone here who plays bass and was too young to remember Japan... Discovered Mick Karn's playing and so sad I didnt discover his talent until now... watching this video though.. the music is spectacular! What a sound! This is brilliant!

These guys make it look effortless-- even Steve Jansen as he pounds the drum heads-- and that's one of the aspects of this band that is so very cool. The music is superb.

Thanks for posting am a big fan of Japan and these guys are just brilliant musicians they done a track with Midge Ure called Cry which was outstanding.Mick Khan is a bass god that’s for sure RIP.

11th edition of Steven Wilson's Complete Discography has over 900 pages. It's a lifetime's worth of discovering SW was playing something, somewhere on somebody elses album and barely anybody knew :)

@@ZeeKat, the video is incredibly well-loved among Japan/JBK fans. Over the years, I've watched it over and over and over again. And now I can watch a clean version over and over again!!! I will share it on Facebook. I'm not in any Japan/JBK-related FB groups anymore, but I still have plenty of friends whom I've met through those groups. I'm sure they will spread the word ;)

Amazing jam. I know nothing about Japan and these incredible musicians from that band. That needs to change!

Japan were awesome well ahead of they're time ! I had the privelage of them in my life in my late teens early 20s till they split in 83😫. Enjoy you're in for a real treat 👌👍🎸

Micks' bass starting at 1:13 gives me the chills ! Haunting sound

Some reason in "Sleepers Awake," the sections at 3:03, 4:36, 5:55, and 6:42 just are really strong. Can't place my finger on it, but this live version has a lot more depth to it than the studio version. It also does well highlighting how tight Karn and Jansen were.

Saw them perform live at the London Astoria the year before. Steven Wilson was in the audience ((with the remaining members of Porcupine Tree I presumed).

Own 3 Barbieri solo albums but this is the first time I listen to this. I like it! Plus I always liked Steven Wilson on lead guitar. Karn is just fabulous on bass. How did I miss this?

Too bad that JBK with Wilson and Travis did not put out several studio albums. Wilson on guitar fits really well with JBK. I have no idea what the dynamic was like between Jansen and Wilson but imagine if the two of them had co-produced JBK studio albums.....

I'd actually argue for a third perspective: the intonation is unimportant. Whether or not it was intentional doesn't really matter.

Probably not the best song to choose but whenever i listened to JBK at times they gave off an almost ethereal sound when playing & its difficult at times to try & not go for a preference of individual acts or those who are more into experimental/proggressive & collaborative acts that join together to make a complete & whole song , which is done by each members contribution to choose to & allow music to go in a specific direction... With Micks Solo work , along with The Dolphin Brothers/Davids solo work & everything that these musicians did that was completely off the grain or rails that apart from Rob's unfortunate sacking/let go Et al each & everyone of them contributed to music in a way that it might take too many​ decades or more for others to truly hear where all of these men were going within the confines of their work.. Though i should really change confines as this group of men were the exact opposite & thankfully they all played music in a time that was always open to any style/sound & genre & was one of the biggest industries that made Hollywood seem like a child asking for permission to go to an ice cream van for some ice cream , no diubt the latter could have a much better analogy but at the moment im too tired to care & those of a higher thinking should know what i meant , ot did they... lol Basically the Music Industry was as IF not mote brutal than the Hollywood Years of Studios calling the shots until up to the start of thr 70s , as the Studio System of operating was not far from bring officially described as dead but movies were still being made by these new young gun directors that didnt want to be controlled & manipulated though ill admit tgere were still elements of studio affect thst still tried to keep these maverick directors under their control but thid was just can old archaic industry that was not now being run like that anymore , but yrs of course actors were tied to contracts just as they are today but IF you thought the Movie Industry was brutal then youd never been on the end on a Music Industry that treated solo acts & bands almost akin to Gladiators going to fight & hope they survived for another day... The Music Industry makes the Movie Industry seem like childs play & it would cut any solo act or band off & out IF it was treating theses acts as IF they were tumours that had to be cut out to stop their infection from spreading... But even the Music Industry had to take a back seat & see IF it experienced what such progressive act's could deliver & thankfully there were those who nurtured such solo acts & bands but lets not get all blushing about these people who made big decisions as For every action , there is an equal & opposite reaction & boy did the Mudic Industry bathe in the blood of those who they were happy to take credit fo things they shouldn't have & wrapped up all too quick to sign acts & bands so eager to become rich & famous that they didnt think to read the fine print but i will admit that somrone must have been in the corner of every member of Japan... Though as i've said unlike Rob Dean who was gone just as they were getting further & furthet ahead by bringing in even mote new fans & though any fan's at the time of " Japan " split,​ should have known these men had already had back up plans but even I look back a wonder how such a collective group of men create songs & instrumentals that even Presenters that introduced them before they played Live said " they were perplexed " yet same Presenter was in the same age group shows us how even those with a solo acts or bands were still too ahead of their time for those the music could be directed towards but its that old saying of leading a horse to water but you cant make it drink... I would say that at a certain age Most IF Not All Fan's were on the same wave length of the bands they followed but there were some that took a lot more of a leap of faith to see where these cat's where going & no doubt their Manager & Record Companies made a great profit from such acts , we knew it wasn't fair , but for men like Richard/Mick/Steven & David had the foresight to back each one of them & told them to go & do what you do best & with a rare phenomenon that saw these people who make all the decisions at least gave each & evetyone of them a chance to succeed or fail & know from the exact point that the genesis of such a band like " Japan " still got a Record Deal/Manager & a shot of bringing something completely different from what any other band has brought before until this day & for whatever bad points these people had I still say Thank You for allowing " Japan " & all its various side projects get the chance to be heard & not just heard but at time giving them more artistic freedom that most music fan's took for granted... But again you only survive in an industry like the Music Industry as long as you have a fan base that willing to keep buying & listening to their music & this should never be taken for granted , were as now , that such talent couldn't just be picked out from a group of people a Music produced TV Show rarely anyone I know watches as its so cringeworthy from start to finish that its sad to see the world has been reduced to such low level tactics to TRY & FIND TRUE TALENT when it used to be in an innumerable & sheer abundance over talent that flowed out from the Music Industry every single day but not now but we at still have their music to listen to & use as a point of access or access point to play & hopefully as I see on KZread that's the true talent can at least be found there but it's trying to create a platform that will see others want to go & pay to see such acts... Yes we have various Music Festivals & though great they're not there to nurture & back a solo act or band & IF we can somehow turn this around then Music might become as hugely popular as it was for all those many decades... .....
