"Play Bach as if you were playing Chopin !" used to say Casals. And perhaps... you will never be boring.
1st movement. When the cellist accidentally hits an f#. Starker’s head jerks up and he looks around. Kind of a funny moment. Whether or not one likes the interpretation, I like the cellists sense of commitment.

I love how the student has Starker's edition on the music stand, and yet he completely ignored it. Thanks God Starker was extremely tolerant. He wouldn't have got away with it with Casals. 😂

@maxcohen13, I don’t think he’s bored, I think he’s interested in helping students. Starker had a matter of fact dominance that he projected-it’s not boredom.

He famously looked just as bored when hearing the best young students play Dvorak or Shostakovich (beautifully). He was a hard guy to impress, and had a genuinely incredible teaching method.
Great player great cellist but I cannot say the same about his......outfit and the tie......
