This is that Classic 5 String Fiddle sound, when I think of a 5 String Fiddle I think of Bobby Hicks who revived it. What they do rather cleverly w/ 5 String Acoustic Violins is make the ribs a little deeper so that the C String resonates better, and Hopf Violins have that. I was surfing the internet and sure enough there's actually music written for 5 String Violin on IMSLP.

You might have also noticed that the Ribs are a tad bit deeper so that the C String resonates better. The body is also slightly wider & the bass bar is reinforced.

These Hopf Violins have slightly deeper Ribs than an average Violin so they're a great candidate for a fully functional 5 String Violin.

The holes are smaller since the new pegs have thinner shafts.

The Head stock was broken so it had to be fixed.

5 String Violins go back to the medieval period

JB Violins I'd recommend replacing the Friction Pegs with a set of Perfection Pegs:shop.glasserbows.com/product-p/xpp1vn44os8.3%20set5s.htm which might also allow you to get rid of those fine tuners from the Tailpiece, this way it vibrates more freely.

I can't wait to hear what the Giannini Violin sounds like with 5 Strings because 5 String Violins are becoming more popular. Wittner makes a great 5 String tailpiece that'll keep the weight down, wittner fine tune pegs (and a handy stringing crank) for even more stable and accurate tuning. Daddario Helicore Medium Tension 5 String Violin Strings will make bowing on the Violin easier.

TranceNotes Super Sticky Hide Glue was used so that the new holes can be drilled. Bobby Hicks was known for adding a 5th string to his Fiddle so he can play some lower notes.

You have to glue the bushings into the peg holes so that they stay put especially when adding a 5th string
