@@BarryKibrickOfficial LOVELY and lucky lucky you. She is quite charming and YOU are one of very few interviewers who ask a question (read as "jumping off point") and then allows your guest to really really respond. Your interviews are wonderful.

"If you're born an artist, you would be doing this for nothing. It doesn't matter if you succeed or not, you still do it. It's the business of failure. And it's the business of falling down and getting up with no hands to help you. But that's what you live for." Every non-artist should read that quote for purposes of clarity & general sympathy for the artists in their lives 🤘😁

Just started the odd Netflix / British series “The Fxxxing End of the World”. “At Seventeen” is sung in an early episode. Haven’t thought of that song in many, many years! I remember when the song first came out & it spoke directly to me as it did so many others. And I was able to share about Janis Ian with my younger friend last night. Never heard her speak about herself before. What a delight. And no, this guy interviews just fine. He creates a dialogue; a conversation. And Janis obviously seems to enjoy the repartee. Laughing, even! Delightful.

How unfortunate! To have such a brilliant, pulchritudinous and unimaginably talented artist to interview and to spend close to half of the interview talking, reading and placing the center of discussion on yourself instead of allowing the interviewee (THE JANIS IAN) to speak and express her thoughts; the interviewer could have achieved that by asking poignant, targeted and, above all, far less verbose questions. Yes, in my opinion the interviewer needs to think about taking up another line of work, perhaps one involving numerous hours of public speaking. Other than that, in the little time she was given, Ms. Ian allowed us to look through a window leading our sight and ears to her very heart and mind. I wish she was asked much better, more material questions by someone who did not have the need to promote himself and his wife and child more than his interviewee. Ms. Ian, yes, in order to be able to write the sort of lyrics you did at such a youthful age, you were indeed blessed with incredible talent. All the best to you and your partner.

@SmellyCat he did a good job of eloquently expressing his admiration .. but it is not really the job of an interviewer to put his tongue as far as he can up the ass of his guest - but to give her every opportunity to speak for herself.. sometime by asking much more challenging questions than are asked here..

What a paradoxical woman she is politically. Touring Israel without a second thought for the treatment of the Palestinians, playing South Africa during apartheid, and being pro death penalty? And this is the same woman who was stalked by the FBI and taught at Camp Webatuck by Pete Seeger... unbelievable... That said, she remains my favourite recording artist. But, cognitive dissonance of the highest water... thank goodness her own theory on redemption has entered her beliefs on the death penalty.. personally I think life in prison is a greater punishment...

"Touring Israel without a second thought for the treatment of the Palestinians" come on .. we don't know what's inside her head.. "playing South Africa during apartheid" given the nature of her debut material - that should be applauded as rather courageous .. "being pro death penalty?" no .. not any more - she very eloquently speaks against it here.. "personally I think life in prison is a greater punishment..." so you are missing the point that she is making.. punishment is the fetish of those driven by impotent rage .. janis ian is wise enough to be concerned with redemption.. your words remind me of "Honey D’Ya Think?"

You’re misunderstand Janis… 1) She changed her mind about the death penalty, her opinion evolved… 2)When she went to South Africa, she felt that some boycotts such as these were ineffective, and she played strictly for integrated audiences, where she could connect with the people of South Africa… and in regard to Israel, she has said, and STILL says that the situation is quite complicated… She’s not someone who is a rigid, simplistic thinker…
