Just started the odd Netflix / British series “The Fxxxing End of the World”. “At Seventeen” is sung in an early episode. Haven’t thought of that song in many, many years! I remember when the song first came out & it spoke directly to me as it did so many others. And I was able to share about Janis Ian with my younger friend last night. Never heard her speak about herself before. What a delight. And no, this guy interviews just fine. He creates a dialogue; a conversation. And Janis obviously seems to enjoy the repartee. How unfortunate! To have such a brilliant, pulchritudinous and unimaginably talented artist to interview and to spend close to half of the interview talking, reading and placing the center of discussion on yourself instead of allowing the interviewee (THE JANIS IAN) to speak and express her thoughts; the interviewer could have achieved that by asking poignant, targeted and, above all, far less verbose questions. Yes, in my opinion the interviewer needs to think about taking up another line of work, perhaps one involving numerous hours of public speaking. Other than that, in the little time she was given, Ms. Ian allowed us to look through a window leading our sight and ears to her very heart and mind. I wish she was asked much better, more material questions by someone who did not have the need to promote himself and his wife and child more than his interviewee. Ms. Ian, yes, in order to be able to write the sort of lyrics you did at such a youthful age, you were indeed blessed with incredible talent. All the best to you and your partner.

And this is the same woman who was stalked by the FBI and taught at Camp Webatuck by Pete Seeger... unbelievable... That said, she remains my favourite recording artist.
