Slaves aren't giving the privilege to "take" on someone else's name. And, to correct this idea that most were born to slave masters. It's a known fact that most of the slaves were very young in some cases. So, by the time some become child-bearing age(in which could be assumed to be 12 years old or so). These slave masters went in to some and produced children. And, if it wasn't them, they would force the young Black men to produce children with the women for more child slaves.

I researched my family tree back 400 years on many, many lines. I was disappointed to not find any Asian or Spanish or African heritage. I got lucky for the most part. I'm a Quebecer and they have a bible of founding families. It spans about 200 years. The Catholics keep METICULOUS records. The disappointing part was finding out that I am part western indigenous. Not because of the ethnicity but because tracing those roots are impossible.
