Janapada Impu (ಜನಪದಇಂಪು) a series of Kannada Folk songs is an attempt to present Janapada Songs in its simplest raw form without the use of any musical instruments. In this Educational Series we present to you many Janapada songs which you can learn, hum along and sing.
This time we present to you Karnataka’s Traditional performance known as “Kolata” and a Kolata Song. Kolata is a vital part of our rural life and a common sight in most Karnataka villages. It is an inseparable part of our folk culture, and it naturally blends into the lives of our villagers. In this, the performers dance beautifully to the rhythm, tapping their sticks in their hands, tapping their feet which are tied with Anklets, and following the background singing.
Kolata songs are the songs sung during the Kolata Performance and they usually start with "Kolu Kolanna Kole". These songs often revolve around village deities, mythological events, historical incidents, social situations, and expressions of love between couples, the principles of life etc.
Janapada songs are a reflection of the diversity of our culture. Let us do our part in preserving the rich heritage & tradition of Janapada and rejoice the richness of our language.
