Jongbloed had some kind of goalkeeper gloves, which were made out of cotton and pieces of ping pong bat surface, but he prefered bare hands. That all changed quickly after WorldCup74 a.o. due to Sepp Maier's success with gloves

There are some very good articles on the history of glove wearing for goalkeepers, describing there origins from homemade, gardening gloves etc too today's on the net.
wearing those iconic 3/4 adidas boots!
Now it is clear that HE is responsible that Holland didn't win the title. Had that shot gone in, Sweden would have won that group and Holland would have met (and probably beaten) West Germany in the second group stage before beating Brazil in the final. Or so the story goes😁

Lol. Or lost, same as the final. The Dutch had the best team of that World Cup, agreed. But in the final match the better side won that very day. Pot luck.

No way, van Beveren was much better but Cruijff did not like him.

No, he wasn't..Jan van Beveren was sensational..a tragedy that he and Cruyff were opposites. Even Van der Sar later said that he wasn't half the goalkeeper Van Beveren was.

Michels should have put Van Beveren in goal. Cruijff wasn't guilty. Michels was.
