Charlie Haden, for me, had the most emotive bass sound in jazz. His style of playing touches the heart and the head. When you can do that music becomes a full living language.

I saw them around that time at the Northern College of Music, Manchester. My friend had just got the Folk Songs album. Do you remember Jan just improvising on the mouthpiece of his soprano? He took it off the horn and started playing it. Mesmerising

I believe this is a different version of the original performance from the official album in 1980 ECM Records GmbH (ECM 1151) still very, very good one! Yes, exactly _ cannot respond in spanish, but I understand exactly - We did not have tv, but I happened to watch this exact clip on some neighbor's TV, and it was then that I understood I wanted to be a jazz musician - Many people have misunderstood me since, thinking I wanted to play bebop and other fast moving stuff - but THIS is what I meant - I want to be inside THIS music ! It is LIFE !

I don't know. But their first recording was in 1980. And it would be odd for a trio playing in 1972 to wait 8 years before recording.

Kalvøya 1972 is certainly too early. Gismonti recorded in Oslo November 1976 with Vasconcelos. I guess that was the first time in Europe.

I'm quite sure that Duke Ellington would love this music! Did you ever hear his "Far East Suite?" The word "swing" doesn't always necessarily mean swing rhythm.

@@pacmusic01 The first Magico album didn't come out until 1980. This is much later than the 70s.

I'm quite sure that Duke Ellington would love this music! Did you ever hear his "Far East Suite?" The word "swing" doesn't always necessarily mean swing rhythm.
