I saved my pennies when I knew this was coming. I saw this performance three times, the prima, the last, and one in the middle. Unforgettable. Why this has never been released commercially is beyond my comprehension. Mattila was magnificent, and Bělohlávek managed to conjure up a true CZECH sound out of the versatile opera house orchestra. Thank you for giving us at least this much.

You are welcome. Karita Mattila is my favorite active soprano and Věc Makropulos is one of my favorite operas ever. I was waiting for this production for ten years now. I am glad you enjoy it.

@@charmeueueur She certainly is one of my very favorites, particularly in the past twenty years, and especially in Janacek where she is always at her best. We go way back (I first saw her in the late 1980's and I just saw her Ortrud before everything shut down, Her artistic development has been supremely impressive. NO ONE thought she would have become what she ended up becoming initially). I actually saw this production when it premiered with her way back (I also saw her at the met, where she was sadly not *quite* at her considerable best). I didn't know they had filmed it. Very happy she's been able to keep expanding her repertoire and hope she is still able to do so. Yes this opera is a masterpiece and I've been very fortunate to see many a great lady in the role (Soderstrom was UNBELIEVABLE in the role live and the NYCO production deservedly was quite famous with Maralin Niska. I also Evelyn Lear, Silja, and Denoke. The last was very impressive).

@@petercallahan7321 I have never seen her live. The first time I noticed her was 2001 or 2003, a radio broadcast of Jenufa by ROH. I fell in love with her. Later she was one of the very few singers I was trying to track. I had twice a ticket for a performance and both times missed it. The first was Vier Letze Lieder by Strauss, which I got an emergency call for work so I couldn't go and the second was her Kostelnicka at ROH which got cancelled due to COVID-19. Thank you for the response. It is so nice to talk with people with the same enthusiasm.

@@charmeueueur Well you are welcome. She is indeed wonderful and the ROH has been lucky to have her as many times as it has. Her graviation to Janacek was a wonderful turn of events. Her Jenufa was devastating

У вересні цього року вона у Макрополус у Паризькій опері. Треба їхати. Вистава Варліковського дуже красива, я бачив з Деноке, уявляю яка буде Каріта!😮

Do you happen to have the full video? I so want to see it again! Watched it twice consecutively back in 2020 or 2021, when they released it for 48 hours on their website... Since then, just these snippets of yours! Such a shame it isn't available on demand...
