They are the same people, but (like the rest of us) play more than one kind of music. The are the same family as our film of Baka women singing "Yelli" (who are sisters, daughters, aunts and mothers of the people you see here). They hear Cameroonian and Congolese music on radios and in town and this is their take on it. They still do the traditional stuff too. They are such good listeners that they will quickly learn music they have only heard a couple of times.

I feel like there's some calypso vibes to this, like Harry belafonte's turn the world around, but so much more organic and structured to a natural timing. This is absolutely beautiful and had me tear up slightly cause of how happy they are and singing from their hearts and soul. Plus all the instruments and voices and how they fit is truly an orchestra, and this is playing with feeling and not strictly technique or the way the original recording was written.

Its hard to know which comes first. Certainly the rhythms the Baka play are at the roots of Soukous, yet they have heard Congolese music on the radio and copy it, so they in turn are influenced by Soukous. I feel I have learned guitar from them, but talking to them they think they've learned from me. The world goes round and round and we pass our knowledge to each other.- Martin (playing mandolin in this video)
