Not to mention Ser Brien filling out Jamie's passage in the king's guard book, that made me so happy, which is crazy because season 1 and 2 I hated Jamie, I was hoping he would get messed up by someone in a fight, I wanted to see his demise but after season 3 and what he did for Brien and learning why he killed the mad king he became one of my favourite characters 👌

This scene perfectly closes Brieene and Jaime's arc. At the beginning of their common history, she considered him a man without honor, unworthy of a knight's cloak. And now she accepts a knighthood from his hand. There is no one in this room that does not understand the significance of what she is being offered (even Tormund gets that it's some kind of big deal). There is no one in this room who would joke about something like this. There is no one in this room who does not currently honor that code, knight or not. Every one of them is here so that they might die tomorrow defending the innocent. All the pomp, all the circumstance, all the conflicting vows and shows of chivalry- none of them existed in that room at that moment. This was always the purpose of those vows, long before they were twisted by violence and ambition. You can see the exact moment it hits her that they're serious. And then, a moment later, when it hits her that they are serious because she really does deserve it.

@@kalimaude3532 ✨👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Beautifully said. I think it takes her a minute to process just how far she’s come in terms of how the world perceives her since the root of her trauma occurred. Like the part about her not only realizing that no one there would play such a cruel joke about something so serious, they all respect and understand the gravity of the rite being offered, AND she realizes she deserves it. That regardless of what other people might believe (re: her being responsible for Renley’s death), she isn’t guilty of any faults other than ones any normal human would have struggled with, and as Podrick points out earlier in the episode, she kept her word to Catelyn Stark. Both her daughters are currently alive and at Winterfell and she, Brienne, played a huge part of that. She’s a fierce and highly capable warrior of great principle that would make an excellent True Knight in an era where the moral decay of such titles is the standard. Everyone is corrupt or out for their own means to some end, except Brienne, who just wants to serve, and be willing to die for, a truly worthy individual or cause.

It's not just him not being used to his left hand, which has obvious history when it comes to Brienne, but he's making sure his grip is completely steady, because this is just as important of a moment for him as it is for Brienne and he doesn't want to be shaky. I love that Tyrion gets up because he knows how momentous knighting Brienne is going to be, Tormund feels it too and stands even though he doesn’t understand why. The emotion and emphasis Jaime puts in “defend the innocent” when his whole life he’s been judged for doing exactly that by killing the Mad King. This scene was GoT at its finest

That is absolutely the nicest thing he could have done for her - and something she well deserved. That last nod of Jaime's head - says so. This is probably the happiest moment of her life. .

1:03 - I’m always struck by how much acting the woman who plays Brienne (her name escapes me at the moment) does with her eyes. She goes from “This is a joke” to “I’m scared that this is going to be just like how those other men treated me so long ago” to looking at Pod (one of the few men whose judgment she actually trusts) asking “Is this for real?” It’s all done in a few seconds without saying a word.

That look Podrick gives her along with Tormund’s support empowers her and finally Jaime, a character who had such an amazing arc completes the scene by giving her something she always wanted and deserved. In a way, Jaime even gave himself affirmation that he was always “protecting the innocent” when he stabbed the Mad King. 0:34 The way he delivers the line is so good, as if Jaime himself is only just realizing the obvious loophole to "tradition", that all it takes is one knight choosing to recognize someone's worthiness of the title and act, and that he can give the ultimate gift to his extremely deserving friend. It's the recognition that the charges in the Oath aren't just expectations, they're values that Brienne has already upheld time and again even without the title (and the memory in his expression of how he knows the weight of not always living up to that Oath). Side note: Imagine how much better this absolutely brilliant scene would have been if the lighting choices allowed you to see everything and take in the moment in full?

This scene was SO GOOD. When he's charging her with her duties as a Knight, you realize she's been the truest Knight in all the Seven Kingdoms this whole time. Maybe the last real Knight left. The way she looks to Pod, who she's learned to trust. When she says she doesn't want to be a Knight, and he gives her a look like "don't lie". Then when she looks back at him, and he gives a nod like "this is really happening, and no one here is going to laugh at you". Everyone in that room has total respect for her. But she's still a little hesitant because she's been hurt so many times. And when's it done, they all cheer for her out of genuine respect and happiness, and she finally allows herself to be happy and overcome. This scene was easily the best thing to come out of the later seasons, maybe the best thing out of the whole show. I always come back to this scene when I want to revisit how good this show was, once upon a time.

All of the best knights in the story were not true knights. Brienne, the very epitome of knightly virtue, cannot be a knight because she is a woman. Sandor Clegane, a brutal and murderous beast of a man who despises knights, is nonetheless a better defender of the weak than most, and Jaime Lannister who clearly broke his vows nonetheless embodies more true knightly virtues than almost any other (he saved hundreds of thousands of lives at the cost of his honour). It's a beautiful deconstruction and reconstruction of what a chivalric knight is.

What's really lovely about this scene is that so much of Jaime's plotline is how he's disillusioned with knighthood and honor. His "they make you swear and swear" monologue is him ripping apart the institution, and the thing that made him a "bad knight" was one of the few times he was being a good man. So for him to speak the vows over Brienne, who has always believed in and upheld the tradition, it's in some ways him reclaiming the vows and seeing the good in knighthood again. What a shame they threw this all away a few episodes later for him to say "I never really cared much for them, innocent or otherwise."
