Jamie's entire arc started because his father had a temper tantrum. Because he didn't answer the phone so John stopped supporting his campaign. Then had the gall to gaslight Jamie into thinking that it was "for the good of the ranch".

Rip was seen the same way, but not in the same frame of mind. Bottom line is, John knew what Rip was to his daughter, when he killed a guy over sexualizing John's daughter.

​@BlueGoblin1 Jaime tried to leave and make a career for himself in politics which he was good at but John and Beth wouldn't let him go his own way because that was considered disloyal to the ranch. Jaime knew the ranch wasn't profitable and tried to save it so his family would be taken care of but John refused out of stubbornness and Beth couldn't convince him either so she doubled down to protect John because it all she could do.

Its beginning to make sense to me why she hate Jamie and blames him for the sterilization. It's because of that incident with her mon, she feels john blames her and hates her for it even though he didnt quite show it anywhere close to how beth shows her haye for Jamie. John shouldn't blame her for it, and honestly it doesnt seem like he did, because he understood she was a kid and it wasnt intentional. But it didnt matter because beth truly feels her father blames her for it and been trying to make up for it ever since. So she also blames jamie for something he didnt do deliberately to cause pain and he was a kid too much older but still a kid and she just wants jammie to feel the same pain she does.

This wasn't only about the Dutton reputation, but what could have possibly happened to the young cowboy if John actually knew who the father was. And sure John said that he would have understood but let's be truthful, a man at that time and a daughter at that age getting pregnant from the boy you took in when he was all alone would be sending Rip to the train station. TL:DR Jamie was concerned with the Dutton's reputation, and Beth was trying to protect Rip from John. Both were scared of their own father.

She also confesses several times throughout the show that she enjoys being cruel and nasty.

No. He gave her a hysterectomy when she was 16 and pregnant because he wouldn’t drive farther into town to a clinic that actually gave abortions. He chose to stay at the one that only took her entire uterus. I’m sorry, but if I had a stepbrother that unknowingly took away my ability to have children, the rest of my entire life. I’d probably hate him too

Jamie has undoubtedly made poor decisions, but the show trying to turn him into a diabolical villain at every turn has no effect. Pretty much everything he says is on point. Beth villainized him over what happened when they were young, and she has every right to be angry, but Jamie isn't the "greater enemy" they keep talking about. Beth fights for her father, and Jamie fights for the ranch, which is actually what John wants his children to do. Jamie would have worked on the ranch if John had not forced him into politics, and then the second Jamie tried to gain power for the sake of the family, his family turned on him and made him give it up, then blamed him for their problems. He is the monster they made him, and as much as I love watching Beth, I have always rooted for Jamie to prove his worth and get back at his family for the way they treated him.

For all the coldness Beth shows, Jamie as a young adult agreed to castrate his sister without hesitation and then didn’t tell her until after she woke up. Regardless of your position on abortion, castrating someone without telling them and doing so without hesitation or remorse is evil. Beth was already spiraling down after the death of her mother and how most of the Dutton family blamed her, Jamie’s actions pushed her over the edge. Jamie vs Beth is another one of those “wars with no good guys” where you want neither of them to win.

Honestly I cant even be mad at him. Jamie is the only realist who can see that John and Beth are killing the ranch. Yeah Beth had the right to be bitter but she is a complete psychopath with no moral compass or empathy. She lost what little morsel of respect that she had left when she threatened to kill Jamies son without remorse. The most evil person on this show but I have to give credit to the actress it is hard to make such a hatable character.

Let's not forget how John also basically told Jammie it would be better if Jammie off himself, after that incident with the reporter when Jammie told John how he was thinking about it after he murdered that reporter, and john even acted like he was disgusted that jamie murdered someone. When John and his family have been killing the family's enemies so much so they have a designated spot for the dump. John justifies it by saying those people are enemies that either attack or threatens the family, and the reporter was just that. They treated jammie like shit as always, he decided to bad mouth, but then decided he regretted it and try to make things right, for the duttons basically and they not only refuse to help him with it even though it has to do with the family, they forced him into a corner where he had no choice and he took the only way he knew to save the family, and they just despise him for it. One of the most cringy scene was john saying how hes just disappointed with jammie but still love him and that hes a son to him. I think the reason both John and beth hates jammie so much is because Jamie reminds them what horrible humans they are for the way they treated Jamie.

I love how he's actually kind of complimenting her as he's insulting her. By repeatedly saying "You KNOW all this!" In the full scene, you see Beth actually show fear in the face of Jamie. She twitched, breathed heavily, and hesitated before she declared "war is just beginning" with a not-so-confident tone. I think she knows what's coming. She knows she's bullied and pushed Jamie so much lately and now, he's finally snapped (the first sign of this being when he almost ran her over for threatening Junior; something that shocked even her). Now, he'll want revenge...

Yes but if nothing of that happenned throughout the series then it's unlikely anything will change that much. Beth is some writers fantasy girl that would make up for his failed wuss personality. I mean seriously it really looks like the reason everything about Beth is so over the top, scars, insults, these stupid ominous faces, kindergarten threats and all that looks like a very long and annoying writers masturbation over some over the top idea of a woman because they had like zero of it. The John Dutton characters also doesn't make any sense where he changes his mind every couple of minutes literally

I hate how they always tried to paint Jamie as selfish. The man went to law school simply because his father told him it would help protect the ranch. Spent years fighting his fathers battles in court and probably did things that could get him disbarred. And when he wanted to run for Attorney General, John said no and cut him off. Jamie just wanted his fathers approval and I’ve never seen John show any appreciation towards him. Never seen him show the same affection he does for Beth and Casey. Jamie did some messed up things but John could’ve handled him better. The nicest thing he’s ever done for Jamie was stopping him from killing himself😭

I have to admit that I'm one of the few that was happy when he finally stood up to his tyrant sister. Everybody thinks beth is just so great but I've always seen her as ¾ evil spoiled brat with ¼ of her actually being decent. And blaming Jamie for her abortion when she put him in that situation herself is just hypocritical, she went to Jamie for help when she should've just handled it herself. She forgets that he was a young teen too when she put him in that situation. Honestly i am kind of pulling for Jamie over Beth, she's been nothing but awful to Jamie the entire series

The fact that the people in this show have a big thing with adoption, like John doesn’t love Jamie bc he’s adopted. And Beth can’t have kids and but apparently adoption isn’t a option.

The way Beth treats Jamie makes me ill. It's hard to watch.

I almost didn't finish watching this series because of the way they treated Jamie. I decided to stick it out in hopes he gets revenge on them all.

Give us more moments like this. Once Jamie actually says things to Beth that are just true, she shuts up because she knows how right he is most of the time. Also, Beth has no leverage over Jamie; if she releases the picture of him, it’ll put her, John, and Rip all in the clink or the chair because Jamie is smart and motivated enough to take all of them down with him.

He was forced to kill his own biological father, Beth's child and the reporter all because of the fear of his dad. If he would be a real character he would find a way to ruthlessly kill all of the people that pose a threat to him as aside from his child he had nothing more to lose. But the writers of this show are focusing mostly on fantasies and are clearly lacking a touch with reality sometimes ( seriously with so many people disappearing in the ranch area fbi would run them down with tanks and bulldozers like the Koresh ranch)

In the other half i hope Jamie press charges on Beths stunt at his house and if John says yes to killing his son then the ranch he should die too because these 2 Duttons have abused Jamie too long

If she gets her way and kills Jamie, Kayce will never forgive her or John. He’ll turn his back on them forever. There’s no scenario I see where Kayce is ok with them taking Jamie to the train station.

As for Cacy, if he wishes to leave the ranch and live with the Native Americans, John will reluctantly let him go. John is really closer to RIP, although he had RIP fake defeat to Cacy to protect Cacy's legacy. Cacy has been threatening to "go Native" for a long time.

No, throughout this series, he has been one of the only ones trying to save the ranch by adapting to the times. But his family sabotages him at every turn. As he say he wants to monetize the ranch to save it rather than let it burn out holding to a dying industry like traditional cattle farming. An example of how this could have been done earlier in the series. The local tribe wanted to build a casino/hotel earlier in the series and were targeting the ranch for additional land to do so. The Duttons fought this. WHat if instead they had instead of selling the land, leased it to the tribe? They would still own the land but would generate a profit from the rent the tribe would have to pay over the long term.

hate how she plays victim and the baby part is her get out of jail card.. it’s mad annoying.. she did that to herself getting pregnant that young.. fuck was she doing? second jamie was too young to understand anything at that point. Beth turned jamie against the family it was her always pushing him away, trying to always berate him.. it’s sickening and psychopathic.

I hate how they treated Jamie, he did everything for the ranch and they just used him...they made him what he is.

I’m not a big fan of Jamie but they treated him like shit so this was kind of deserved for Beth

The difference between Beth and Jaime is he is loyal to the family whilst Beth is only loyal to her Father, she only watches out for Kayce, Monica and Tate because they are important to him personally. Jaime however despite everything those two have put him through is still loyal to the family as a whole and fighting to save the ranch in some capacity so a slice go to Tates kids as well as his own.

Agreed. I never saw selfishness from Jamie. Shoot, he didn't even wanna be a lawyer in the first place. John made him do it. And I suspect that while Beth loves her Dad, the only reason she's agreeing with him on everything is because she knows he is going to run the ranch into the ground. Once that happens and John dies, she'll try to sell it all, as she's made it clear more than once that she hates the Yellowstone. Jamie, however, loves the ranch and the cowboy life. He wants to save it and may very well be the only one who can. Really hoping he's the one left standing when this Dutton Civil War ends. Be cool to see him work with his brother Kayce to secure a great future for their sons and combat Matt Mcconahay's character on 2024...

Jamie is literally the only sane person in this entire show but unfortunately he’ll probably be put down in the next season.

I think people dont mention enough jow john basically told Jamie, it's probably better for Jamie to off himself, after jamie told john, he was thinking about it after he killed the reporter. And then John was even acting like he was so disappointed when him and his family before him ha e been killing the enemies of their family, so much so they have a designated spot to dump the bodies. Jamie's entire life was threatened by that reporter and he was also even just doing that to save John's ass. I'm glad I see so many people in the comment hating on beth more because it always felt a little co fusing the way they try to make beth and john out to be this tough guy who are innately good people who values family and all.but the way they treated Jamie is just the worst.

Jamie worked his entire life doing what his Dad wanted and helping the family and any time he eats anything for himself he is called selfish! The first time Janie gets upset (because John takes his dream from him) John beats the shit out of Jamie!

I actually like Jamie. I feel sorry for him as I do all of the Dutton children-well, not Beth’s crazy ass. John Dutton is a cold bastard. He raised, manipulated, and groomed each of them to be what HE needed. Kayce is the baby/favorite. Jamie is the lawyer/yes man. Beth is the attack dog. Rip is the door mat. John is the problem here. As much as he does love them-he loves the ranch more and will sacrifice any of their happiness for he own selfish reasons. It’s very twisted. Beth’s treatment of Jamie is disgusting over something he did when they were both teens. Telling him to go kill himself was vile. Wes is correct. Jamie does need to kill Beth by the end of the series. Then Rip will kill Jamie and Kayce will kill Rip. Jamie has saved their bacon so many times. They need to give him way more respect for keeping them out of prison and trying to keep the ranch profitable and in the family.

The writers just let her abuse her powers and anyone that stands up to her bullshit in the name of "a stong modern female character" its plays into radical feminism and just have a bad look on women overall. For me its the opposite of strong, because she have no self control and the emotional intelligence or capabilities to deal with issues past and present. I want more scenes with Jamie and Kayce. The remind me of Jaime and Tyrion. Wait, are all brothers named Jaime just loving brothers that have a strong bond with their brothers? That’s kinda neat.

I swear the only sane people in that show is Jamie, kayce and rip. Beth doesnt care about the ranch never will and John will literally kill the ranch sooner than later and this whole beth hate for jamie is so over kill. It all could have been avoided on so many levels its partly her and rips fault for letting teenage harmones get the best of them and partly jamies fault but he was trying to protect the family name and went about everything the wrong way. But you know who is really at fault John Dutton that man has really done thing for his kids but grow and use them as weapons for his personal use. If your kids are to scared to come to you with theyre problems you honestly failed as a parent. Did snyone forget what he said to kayce about tate? He wanted tate aborted thats why kayce never came around id do the same thing. John is not a good person, he isnt the devil but he is damn close

It was nice to finally see Jamie get the upper hand on Beth for once.

As much as I understand and appreciate Beths animosity toward Jamie, I just feel like the writing has gone too far when it comes to Jamie. Beth went from being broken over loss and now it’s turned into mean ugly vindictiveness….It’s a little offputting

i agree with the writing going too far. in the beginning, it was actually more realistic that some of the dutton siblings had worse relationships with each other. it was interesting. the reason behind beths anger made a lot of sense, but how many times can she be aggressive and abusive towards jamie? she HAS the life she wanted now with rip and carter, even if its different than what she expected as a kid. wouldnt it be character development for her to....stop caring about her past with jamie? we could have had a character arc for beth AND jamie. i guess sheridan just likes writing beth being super edgy and nasty too much lol

This confused me because in the season prior to this, Beth is at the “train station” when Jamie goes to dump his fathers body. She waited there for him and took a photo as collateral. So why is Beth shocked and then goes to her father asking about this place she claims to know nothing about?

@@neonrodenson1480 I admittedly wrote that comment before getting access to season 5. I still don’t think Jamie truly “regrets” having Beth undergone the hysterectomy without telling her. However, I will say with the way Beth has been written in season 5 I’m less willing to defend her actions. Beth seems even more hellbent on destroying Jamie and causing him harm than before. I mean she literally threatened to kill his son and then walks away and is shocked he actually considered running her over. Like seriously, the guy killed a reporter in a fit of rage over the threat of being exposed in the press, how did she think he was going to react a threat to his child. Jamie has become Johns opposite. John thinks the only way to save the ranch is just keep the status quo and if he has to sell it so be it. Jamie thinks the only way to save the ranch is to lease it off bit by bit. Beth is desperately trying to convince John to find other ways to monetize the ranch and he keeps bucking her at every turn, Jamie also refuses to see any other opportunities to financially save the ranch and the war between the two I think will end up with both of them dead. Especially considering Kevin Costner hasn’t officially agreed to return for a season 6 giving me the belief this season will end with both john and Jamie being out of the picture permanently.

I’m in a series where I have generational property, I would do anything to save it for “My Father” it’s something he is proud of having, so I can see Beth’s side of this situation, Jamie just wants power I don’t agree with John if he adopted him he is no different than Beth Lee or Kacie for any reason

Yes, he was Mephistostopheles. He also played in the hunger games, that guy with the weirdly designed beard. Kind of looked like flames or something.

You're wrong he needs to make the ranch profitable so the ranch wouldn't be taken away piece by piece. the airport would have made sure that ranch wouldn't' be touched for 100 years!

The ranch is all Jamie cared about material-wise. Unlike John, he gets that the ranch won't survive without some influx of income. Beth knows it, too...

Ye love the show but this scene accidentally left a plot hole. When Beth took that pic of him, she was already there waiting but now she didn't know anything about it? Considering ever it's located i can firmly believe he would've see a car following

Yeah she was there, she knew what he was doing there. It’s very crappy for them to take that back now.

They treated Jamie like shit. Don't blame him a bit in this scene.
