His best position is on a podium with Ol’ Big Ears

He was having a great second half of the season in 2014 with that run of unbeaten games playing on the right and contributing goals and assists. The sending off was a big mistake, not needed, and cost some momentum heading into the Chelsea match.

I was one of the most fierce Hendo haters. I have to say he is Top Class this year and changed my mind.

Very much so, it's only klopp who changed his position. Injuries mean he hasn't had the pace for the wing for a while. I remember watching a video of a very young teenage hendo once and thinking how amazing his skills where for a young lad. I think he's been very unlucky with injuries and klopp knew he was a good pro so tried to use that by putting him in dm role. He never used to play as an 8 all that much when he was young, as your comment says he was a flighty winger as a lad. It's great to see him being used in different positions, a bit more luck with injuries hendo could have been world class. The professional job he a Milner do no matter where they are asked to fill in is integral to this team. I may also point out how much this says about hendo. How long has he played out of position and not complained or said anything, it's taken months and months for him to go to klopp and say I should play further forward, such is his respect for the manager and the club, your pogbas and hazards should take a leaf out his book

Stephen bubba b spot on. Hendo had to play as the holding midfielder because he was the most disciplined midfielder we had. Can was strong but not a Steady Eddie, Lallana, Coutinho, Allen, etc. and Millie was a LB. Hendo is more talented than he gets credit for. He and Milner have done ANYTHING Klopp asked FOR THE TEAM. Now the defense is stronger and Fabinho is here he doesn’t HAVE to play there. Honestly Rodgers tried to send Hendo to Fulham, and ultimately Hendo became his Captain. Rodgers made a lot of dumb decisions, but that was maybe his best. Jordan Henderson gives EVERYTHING EVERY MATCH. And at the Barca and Wolves matches he was tracking back to help out the defense. Klopp managed his time and chronic conditions all season (he almost never started 2x in less than 7 days) and he has had a dynamic true box to box midfielder at the end of the season when we need it most. The way he played through pain and gave it all is a credit to Hendo and he is COMPLETELY worthy of being Liverpool’s captain. He is clearly proud of the liver bird on the chest. Not our best player in any one thing, but huge heart and for sure the best example for all the lads to follow.

Henderson is the ultimate team player....he will play anywhere he's told,always motivating the team,gives everything in every game and never moans when gets subbed because he knows it's for the team

When Liverpool bought Hendo from Sunderland, they did so *because* of the position he's playing in. The problem is, Rodgers didn't seem to believe in having a proper defensive midfielder. He was all about attack-attack-attack and it doesn't matter if we concede; we'll win more. With the introduction of Fabinho (a *real* defensive midfielder), we've now shored up out defence and allowed Hendo to move back to his natural position.

Every team needs a Hendo !!!

To be honest hendo is underrated he does his job perfectly maybe he isn’t world class but still work hard

I think this has been know for a while by Liverpool fans who know their stuff. Fabinho is a far better 6 and Hendo is a very good box-to-box. All we need is a 3rd midfielder to chip in with assists and a couple goals. Keita has the potential and before Ox got injured he showed he was that guy and was our 2nd best player behind Salah.

It's a matter of needing him for a particular position. Until Fabinho arrived, we didn't have anyone who could do the CDM role better than Hendo. Naturally, he was put in there to offer that stability. And while he doesn't spray passes like a No. 6, he is a pretty darn good CDM, and intercepting play. With Fabinho there though, it definitely helps to have one of the midfield 3 be someone who can offer a bit in both attacking and defending sense. Basically a box to box player with great energy and work ethic, and he's perfect for that right now. We do not have others who can do a better job there, and hence he's thriving, and allowing our attack to do so as well.

What people forget is that Hendo had a string of bad injuries. He had the injury with his heel that kept on persisting.

I think this season people have said it's fabinho vs Henderson for a place in the starting line up, but honestly they both play very well together. This very well could be our set midfield. With keita, ox or gini with them.

Good points made by both, but it boils down to trust. Klopp didn't trust anyone in the #6 before bringing Fabinho up to speed. No more complicated than that. Wijnaldum is also much better slightly farther forward. It takes Klopp a tad too long to get players to where he can trust them, but when he does, they're dynamite. Recall Henderson's playing position in that mighty 2013/14 season under Rodgers? So influential was he during that campaign that I still contend his braindead red card in the crucial victory over ManCity weakened the team, ruined rhythm, checked momentum and, ultimately, cost us the title. Carra's seagull laugh @5:28 tho...

I was extremely critical of the way Klopp used Hendo because he couldn't use his strengths and because his defensive contribution from the deep lying position wasn't good enough. Looks much better at the moment.

I think putting him as a 6 was a good decision, maybe should've moved up field when Fab was settled into 6 instead of switching between the 2 at times. It's improved his passing and defence making him an exceptional all-round player. Not gonna credit Klopp 100% for this, as it's just happened due to coincidence and hard work on Hendo's part.

Hater is being hater. He is very good player for me and I can easily understand why Kloop plays him. He does everythings that he need to do in his position but I know he doesn't do anyhings else that why someone hates him. Anyway his job is done and what can manager want more from non-top class player.

I don't understand this discussion... Liverpool play with 3 holding midfielders (as Gary said, they only move forward to sustain their attacking position rather than attack themselves)... wing backs playing very attacking and rely on the "front 5" to create chances... Robertson 9 assists Alexander-Arnold 7 assists.. while Henderson and Fabinho 2 assists apiece and Keita 1 are their highest from a central midfield position. They don't score goals either.

@@splinter360 I don't get why Liverpool fans don't understand how their own team plays, and assume this is an attack on Liverpool's team, it's not in ANY WAY. I would not classify Henderson or Keita to be "box to box" midfielder, hardly any player in world football is that anymore, due to the possession natural of the game, and playing 3 up front, heat map will show they move forward and back between boxes, but THEY DON'T GET IN THE BOX TO SCORE or CREATE like Lampard or Gerrard. The 3 midfielders hold the fort, rotate the ball and pass out to the 5 players who do all of liverpool's attacking Robertson/mane/firmino/salah/alexander-arnold. Barcelona plays a very similar formation/tactic Busquets/Arthur/Rakitic keeps the ball rotate through the pitch with their wingbacks playing very high up the pitch, and their front 3 doing all the attacking. Chelsea play with a similar tactic (not as well), Jorginho/Kante/Kovacic/Barkley none of them are "CAMs" either. It's simply the way Liverpool plays, they don't have cams, they have 3 midfielders who are there to win the ball for Liverpool.

The only difference I'd make is that Klopp likes having one of our 8s be able to break the lines by beating a man and driving through midfield which is what Chamberlain was perfect at. That's why Keita came in and is finally now starting to do, same with Henderson and his consistent runs into the box. They still need to be able to crunch into tackles and be on the money with their positional awareness. I don't think there are too many "10s" who have the defensive work rate and understanding to track back the other way, cut passing lanes and press. That's why we've struggled more against City this year because we didn't have that type of midfielder who could beat their press and expose the City defence.

@@splinter360 Actually you need to understand that despite 1 holding and 2 b2b , all are very defensive minded to make our fullbacks more of a threat from the wing . When fullbacks go forward , the two b2b players will act as auxiliary fullbacks for them . It's how the system works .. Our midfielders prioritize defense over attack more..

Depth is the key. He'll keep rotating. But Fabinho has to always be in the holding midfield position. Besides Millie is most probably leaving at the end of this season if Leeds are promoted.

Bernie Duku it’s not just about pushing someone out. Seasons are long, cup games, Champions League, etc. More competition for spots is good for the team, there will be injuries, players will go in and out of form. He’ll have plenty of chances.

He has improved his defensive attributes but in return has dulled his attacking abilities. His shooting accuracy, finishing have been extremely poor especially when wearing the liverpool jersey.

Skipper Henderson should not be playing attacking midfield, nor should he be playing defensive midfield. It should be in between, centre midfield, allowing him to spray passes and get into the box more often.

I think he's a good 6. Maybe not as good as Fabinho in terms of passing, but is more mobile. As an 8 I don't think he has any standout qualities. He's a decent hard-working player overall and I dont understand why he gets so much hate.

''hate'' is a strong word, i don't hate man united or everton as a liverpool fan, i don't like united, that's it. i hate City, PSG because they are owned by countries, ruining football, have dodgy deals going on which are unfortunately not punished because money rules., inflate the market etc. Liverpool, United, Everton are proper clubs, as it should be. United also spends crazy money but the way they get their funds and City does couldn't be more different.

His best position is on the bench average player not as good as Fabinho Wijnaldum and Keita he can come off the bench if Liverpool need to hold a lead and be more defensive or start if the players need a rest

@@Dan-tr5kw lets start with we dont know how ox is going to be in terms of form and fitness when he's back, henderson is our capt, while ox is good he's only had about half a good season whereas henderson has been fairly good even during bad days over his many years at liverpool. Also lets not forget that no:8 cant be 1 person role for a whole season, we need to be able to rotate.
