As great as this is, and as much as I love her, nothing prepared me for how truly stunning she was in Houston in the full opera. She OWNED the house and she knew it. I pray La Favorite is revived for this truly extraordinary artist. She is one of the greats.

Well ,Jamie won the competition in Cardiff-of course.It seemed the whole auditorium was saluting her when they stood and sang the Welsh National Anthem .It was a very well deserved win.Congratulations from Anglesey,my dear.

This is wonderful, she has a terrific voice and just seems to have an amazing resource of technique and musicianship, the expression and emotion are anchored in the sense and phrasing of the music. A truly engaging performer with a wonderful voice....

She sounds and looks stunning! I saw her in recital in person and it was breathtaking. She is an amazing artists and singer, and incredibly down to earth as well. The real deal!

I totally agree that Ms. Barton is on the road to greater things---"La Favorita" by Donizzeti is superb for her voice---the voice is flawless and reminds me of Ms. Agnes Baltsa and Marilyn Horne intertwined---there is unity of the dark and light side of the "timbre" of the voice---I am in total admiration for her impressive abilities I look forward to seeing what this superb singer has in store for us---

such power,precision and tone is wonderful.I haven't heard any others in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition,but I don't need to.This lady cannot be bettered and has a great operatic career ahead of her.

Never have heard about her ... till NOW! What a surprise!

I was fortunate enough to have studied vocal pedagogy under a professor who wrote his own book and studied under William Vennard---I learned much----I have listened to Ms. Barton several times I can find absolutely nothing vocally improper---What a voice she has!!! One of my favorite composers is Donizetti and I have this opera with Ms. Fiorenza Cossotto---It is wonderful---

An incredible artist! I am so looking forward to her singing this role with Houston Grand Opera during the 2019-2020 season.

ME too! In two weeks! I love that she mentions that the opera is never staged. Well Jamie, when an artist is as great as you are, a rarely heard opera is revived!

What a magnificent voice and she looked like she was enjoying it so much. So relaxed. WOW!

Ole Nielson Reminds me sometimes of Marilyn Horne (though her diction is better) and sometimes of Stephanie Blythe though her singing is totally personal.

The first time I saw this years ago I was so shook by her whole entire body language and range when she hit that high note it changed me. I would die to train with her! I want to be her.

Elina has horrible chest voice, she’s a soprano with no high notes, not a mezzo.

Beautiful voice. Chest voice so rich and powerful and sweet in head voice also.

It's not just that she was propperly trained. There are plenty of properly trained singers that couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. It's been less of a problem since Callas woke up the opera community to the fact that it's theatre but there are still singers (especially at recital venues) who just stand there and sing without bothering.

Sure! I'm in the US and its a PAIN to try to listen to the competition. I've been all over the web looking for updates lol. Just wish it was more accessible!

I wish Jamie all the best in the Cardiff competition! She deserves to win. Unfortunately, four of the nine judges are not singers. Out of those four, three aren't even musicians...AT ALL! Sadly, this has been the rule rather than the exception in vocal competitions for as long as I can remember. Why, I don't know, but it needs to change. Does this happen w/instrumentalists too?

You obviously were not listening when she exhibited the delicious diminuendo.

Forced a little on the high note, probably due to nerves and fear, but otherwise, wonderful!

Absolutely not. This is a French Opera, composed by Donizetti for Paris, on a French libretto by Royer and Vaëz. It was translated in Italian a couple of years later.

Close your eyes and hear Marilyn Horne.
