Yep. Apparently, a couple other actors they initially considered for the role were Jack Nicholson (He was ultimately turned down because he wanted more money for the role than Disney was prepared to spend) and Jon Lithgow (He did some recordings for the role, but they just didn't think he was the right fit for it), but as great as those actors both are, I don't think they'd have made Hades anywhere near as memorable as Woods made him.

I love that dedication. You can tell, though, that with age and health, his voice will start changing, so he'll sound slightly different but remain the same, if that makes sense.

Not always. Even the most distinctive voices has ranges and different character to them. I saw Spirited Away and noticed that the voice of Meg was in it; I recognize the voice quickly, and she does sarcasm so well with that soft voice.

The thing I love is that he always says he's available to voice Hades in any new projects.

James woods as hades was absolutely hilarious and fantastic. His voice talent as hades and other villains does it right .

Hades is low-key one of my favorite animated movie characters. The voice-acting and animation together is just too perfect.

The role of Hades is one of James Woods' all-time favorite characters. So much so, any time Disney needs him to reprise the character for any cartoon show and video game, such as Hercules: The Animated Series or Kingdom Hearts, he has agreed to do so. When Hercules was about to go over-budget, he offered to refund his salary and finish the film for free. Disney decided against this, and finished the film anyway. James Woods won an Emmy Award for this role for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for Hercules: The Animated Series in 2000.

To tell the truth- James Woods's voice as Hades, Lord of the Dead is way better than Rob Paulsen’s.

On This one occasion, Paulsen has been outshone

James Woods, Susan Egan, and Danny DeVito are the top three actors that really stand out for me in that order. I was 8 years old when this movie came out and this was what got me into Greek mythology, which would later help influence my writings as an aspiring author, and a good thing too because none of my classes ever really taught Greek mythology until I was in high school, and that's why this movie holds a special place in my heart.

Hades was definitely the best part of the movie!

He nailed it so hard.

For spirit week when I was in High School, we had a Disney day, and I dressed up as Hades complete with a blue wig for the fire. He's easily my favorite Disney character, and James Woods is one of the best casting decisions of all time. What a legend.

It’s amazing to me how Jack Nicholson was first in the running for the role. I’ve always wanted to see what that would’ve been like. But James Woods KILLED it. It’s his fucking movie and Hades still makes me laugh whenever I watch clips.

You know what’s actually kind of ironic about Hades: when he’s calm his fire is blue but when he gets angry his fire becomes red. Scientifically blue fire is hotter then red fire which means that when Hades gets angry he’s actually cooling down his flame instead of making it hotter which is what is being implied! Edit: also Hades in the actual myths was really one of the nicer gods other than when he kidnapped Persephone.

He exactly looks like his character. Good spin by James.

Hands down my favorite hades as a kid and as an adult. Quote James wood so much with my kids jokingly of course.
