James Taylor, "Only a Dream in Rio" on Letterman, September 24, 1986
James Taylor performs "Only a Dream in Rio" with the World's Most Dangerous Band and then discusses the inspiration for the song with Dave. In stereo.
(He had performed the song on The Tonight Show the previous November, uploaded here: • Video )
Of interest to probably no one: This video comes from the show's rebroadcast of August 8, 1988. I have two sources for this rebroadcast, one from the San Francisco affiliate (in mono) and one from D.C. (in stereo). In both sources there's a video glitch at around 1:30 of this clip. That glitch isn't present in the original broadcast of September 24, 1986. The source I have for the original air is in mono, so I patched the mono moment into the stereo. Easy to spot.

Only a dream in Rio...1985/86 unforgettable! ❤️
Only a dream in Rio such a beautiful song straight to and from the ❤ heart
Rock in Rio 1985 was Brazil's Woodstock in a way...Taylor played to over 300,000 people and that night mesmerized him as you can see in this video. Look up the concert.
Letterman always had the best musical performances.

🎶🎵😍😍Liinda música!!
Super , will looks great
Good interview... it's always nice to hear Dave's appreciations. He should have had James play another song... maybe 'Mona' would have been short enough. Song about having to put down (shoot) a pet pig.
On my birthday too, September 24th. 🎼
🇧🇷 💚 💛
James , bring back the Vibrato, I like that, it seems you've abandoned it???
