We, Russians are jealous of the adaptations of our classic novels in other countries. Our Russian version of War and Peace by Bondarchuk considered to be a benchmark and an example of how to make such films. But it is too classic, and not real. Although the series version of War and Peace BBC is not as deep and complex as a book, and not all actors and actresses fit outwardly to their characters, many thanks to creators of series! Paul Dano and James Norton were really good. I am surprised that they could almost understand our strange and mysterious Russian soul! Respect for all who made it! But the fact that after watching War and peace people began to read the greatest novel makes me happy! Even I desided to read it again! СПАСИБО!

The series is very entertaining and very aesthetically pleasing, but hopefully it inspires people to read the book so they dont come to ridiculously superficial conclusions like the presenter's: "oh andrei is so grumpy isn't he?". Good Lord. BBC does love to dumb down these days.. or do they think they're playing up to their audience?

What a wonderful comment from a non-Russian person. Exactly shopping mall. Your British TV series is stupid and superficial. There is nothing better than the filmed Soviet version of Bondarchuk's film. How many hidden emotions, deep meaning, powerful experiences of the heroes are there. It is especially disgusting to watch an adult aristocrat rolling in the snow with his young bride, an aristocrat. Right on top of it. Horror! English directors are not aware of the behavior of men and women in the noble society of the early 19th century! And not only in Russia, but also in England!

Would love to be able to read it in russian some day.. As for whether the directors are aware... they probably are, they are just trying to make it more relatable to a 21st century non-russian audience I would guess.. at the cost of authenticity and profundity

I do agree, but at the end of the day, Natasha is one of the main characters. I think she represents peace and love in some way and i believe that that is the reason why they put her in the middle of the poster. Plus while reading the book you will find out what strong of a character she has and that she's really different from everybody else.

@@carokat1111 try jeremy irons. I understand what you are saying but these people are film actors. even Kate is said to have had cosmetic dentistry and I don't find her smile or anything about her "characterless" there was a film and theater critic in stats John Simon who used to carry on about the appearances of actors of our time. He got allot of pushback but I agree bare minimum is they should at least be good looking. This english trend with the horse mouth started with Julie Christie whose looks were also ruined by her teeth. All american actors are awful there isn't a minor british character actor who cannot act circles around our A list performers. I believe the reluctance of the academy to nominate foreign actors is the knowledge they would almost always win. I especially like the austrailans

Some of the best character actor are very average physically but they're a joy to watch.. I agree that sometimes it's a good idea to have work done - Pierce Brosnan would never have been Bond without fixing his teeth - but overall I guess I'm against fillers, veneers and the whole artificial perfection that is being aimed for.

I think appearance is more an american fixation and to some extent silly. I also think the "rules" ,so to speak, are different for the males and females. Sometimes youtube has a video on the best looking classical actors and there never seems to be any english ones on it. I cannot stand the overbite horsey look on too many of the ladies in english cinema and fashion. I guess it is a cultural difference.
