    He was my neighbor in the Colonnade apartments in Newark NJ. I was a couple of years old and my folks use to have him over when he was around. I've always had a love for his music growing up. My Mom would play his records and sometime you would catch something on the radio WPAT for those of you who are from the area. I was in Knoxville Tennessee having a beer at "Bistro at the Bijou" when they announced on radio that he passed away. I called my folks and let them know. I listen to his music all the time. Enjoy!

    I know the colonnade apartments... my cousin lived there n I visited often as a kid... did not know mr Moody lived there too...I was a child n it wouldn't been relevant but glad to know a connection to the master

    James Moody had a great personality in his craft. He swang and made magic, both beatiful and fun at the same time. What a genious!

    This guy is absolutely insane on the flute. The saxophone playing of course is legendary and brilliant but man that flute is outrageous!!!!

    what articulation... and ideas...!!! Lot of musicians don't have more than 1 chorus worth of things to say (hence Count Basie's limit on his musicians)

    @@zangsax Thank you! Yes Joe Farrell WAS a monster on flute. His solo on Light as a Feather on the LP of the same name is one the greatest moments in all of jazz

    Eric Dolphy and Julius Hemphill were both excellent. Alberto Socarrás and Wayman Carver are my two favorites, though.

    @@F0nkyNinja because the "nice sound" comes from Mr. Moody being a master musician, not from whatever piece of metal he's using. Too often so many musicians today hear some great player and think "wow what gear is going to make me sound like that" instead of "what kind of commitment, focus, and determination" do I have to put in to sound like him?
