I think people don't realise how far presenters of these programs push themselves. I loved the Clarkson team on TG but I also think that the Flintoff team did a bloody good job. Harris is a driving monster. It is sad that it's off the air but far more important that Freddie is well.

Why wasn’t the show closed down when Richard Hammond crashed that rocket car at close to 300 mph. He airlifted to hospital and was also in a coma, and suffered memory loss issues as well. The BBC also showed the both Hammonds crashes on the news, plus we got an explanation of what went wrong. (I know there was no explanation for the Rimac’s crash). Why the cover up with Freddie Flintoffs accident?

​@gordonjohnston684 : I'm totally speculating here, but it could be that Hammond's injury wasn't visible (so to speak). Whereas, sadly Freddie's face is currently messed up, pretty bad. The guy's had extensive plastic surgery to rebuild his face. Google the images. It looks pretty harsh.

@THE-BUNKEN-DRUM I think you're right. I think that there was also an element of choice. Freddie chose to stay out of the limelight. His recovery has taken a lot longer and it's fair to say that his injuries are physically life changing. I'm also speculating that it's probably had a massive effect mentally.

People seem to forget it took the original show with Clarkson, Hammond & May a while to actually build up the chemistry & banter they had. Also they massively benefit from the whole idea that the show was supposed to be ‘proper’ & ‘informative’ & it was them acting like naughty kids in the back of the classroom that made it so good. People tune in & expect Freddie & the other chaps to be exactly the same when it just really isn’t positioned like that anymore. They do alright!

True, and if you look at who did most of the really dangerous stuff in the old Top Gear, it Richard. He had a few bad accidents, a lot of the stunts he did could have gone horribly wrong. Jeremy and May were there for their banter mostly.

I dunno man, Hammond did some pretty crazy stuff. He has almost died twice now! Not a fan of the current top gear but I'm not expecting the original 3 back. It's not their show anymore. Hope Flintoff makes a full recovery and can carry on!

James May and Richard Hammond both excel at being polite and decent people. It is never a good thing when people go to hospital.

If you make a broad appeal program in the UK you have to accept that a significant part of the fan base will be irredeemably stupid.

Once again, James has done this properly.

I can’t believe they didn’t make him wear a full face helmet, when he was was taller than the cars roll bar. Madness. Also, it wasn’t the safest track, as an air field, proper hard standing run off areas were basically non existent. Which is why the star in a reasonably priced car segments had some near flips!

Indeed, a lot of Top Gear fans are really quitevile individuals it seems.

Did Hammond ever sue the producers of top gear or the BBC for his injuries? The reason the show is off the air is because of the presenters.

He did it at his own risk so how the hell was he able to sue the Beeb? Same with Sue Aiken who fell off her snowmobile and sued them. The beeb should make people sign disclaimers before the crashes saying they were doing it at their own risk.

Well said Sir. My honest opinion is that Freddie Flintoff is never going to fully recover. From what I know he took massive damage to his facial structure and the nerves within it. Freddie is way beyond the Takeshi Kitano factor now.

good man, and they've all been in crashes and wouldnt wish that on anyone in the world, as it wasnt about ego when they left, it was about following a friend, and they still work for the BBC from time to time on their own gigs, last thing they would do is dump on someone like that in their time of need. and that is coming from me, a guy who actively made fun of Chris Evan's when he took over, but that was my own bias and the fact that the guy took the bumpers off of a vintage, beautiful ferrari 250 Californian spider that was key to its looks, and put a stupid number plate on it.

Why can't we comment on why T.G. ended? May is above comments/ opinions? Maybe May just proved our opinions.

Accidents happen that’s for sure the difference is outside of these scary moments the presenters themselves will never will be that raw funny genuine craziness that HAMOND CLARKSON AND MAY FOUND themselves in through out the years. Chris Harris Quentin Wilson and Tiff Needel would have been a good line up for tg. Wasn’t really a fan of any of the others that tried. Try they did and fair play to them but it wasn’t really working.

@imahappycamper2022 the link you have to another totally different crash where he was wearing a helmet and wasn't injured , the car he was critically injured on was a three wheel Morgan super 3 which he wasn't wearing a helmet the Morgan has a rollover bar but anyone sitting init there head is above the bar and other people IV seen driving it have helmets and there is no public footage of that crash and the first photos of Flintoff in public shows wounds on his face and possibly skin grafts , I hope recovers fast because he is a entertainment legend

It's just that people are upset that Top Gear went on after the core people weren't there anymore. They should have never tried to make a new Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. They made the show. The arrogant idea that people still cared about the show was totally wrong. It's not good they hated on Freddie in such a situation but it was a money grab horrible idea to continue the show without the 3 Kings.

Why has this terrible accident being covered up in a vail of secrecy? Something doesn’t smell right. Anyway that three wheel Morgan looks so dangerous, with minimal overhead protection and nothing sitting of the dash apart from a tiny wind deflector if the car was ever to ever roll over how could Morgan not see how dangerous this car really is? Especially running on three wheels, and I am sure it was probably being driven to its limits.

@@therealgaragegirls I believe that was the first time he cashed, Freddy did crash a Three wheel Tri called a Bandit. He was wearing a full face helmet, he failed to stop from a high speed run, and went off the end of the runway. He was uninjured. It resembled a sled with an engine mounted on the back. Virtually no protection again, travelling I think it was 160mph + head first.

@@seanbrown8533 Yeah, they been doing Grand Tour and other things like Clarkson's Farm, James May in Japan/Italy. Richard did a survival show with one of the hosts of Mythbusters. Their humor is what made Top Gear, I will not be watching the new guys cause they're not humorous. I'm more taking it out on BBC because the guy probably deserved to be smacked. It's quite obvious why I won't be watching new top gear, not sure why you didn't put that together but if you like it, then whatever. We all have our preferences and reasons why we watch things. They're getting too old now and BBC just wants to keep cashing in on the Title.
