WHAT ARE THESE NOTEBOOK GROUPS HE SPEAKS OF AND WHY AM NOT INVOLVED

I had literally never even heard of "The Notebook" until 2 hours ago, when I randomly clicked onto the channel it was on. I must've missed like the first 30mins or so(??), but it was really good, and ^he played a good role. I was under the impression that the girl was Jennifer Garner. But I took a break and looked up ^his name online, and it was then that I saw that the girl was Rachel McAdams! She looks identical to Jennifer Garner! Maybe even prettier....
