James Hill, one of the greatest. I was just at a camp with him in Northern California. He was my teacher. The camp was at a place called Asilamor, My spelling is off. This guy is good. He has a CD and book out.

i don't understand how you can dislike this. I mean, you might not be into ukulele and folk music, but seriously, this just inspires happyness!

@MrLongboardification It is G-String. The owner and main luthier of the company made his 2 custom ukuleles for him after he released his first album. There have been reproductions by G-String for this particular model, marketed as the James Hill signature model. They were discontinued when James stopped exclusively using G-String. There are still quite a few floating around, but they'll cost you a pretty penny. When they were still in production, they went for about $3000.

@politirin I've taken workshops in Canada with James and his mentors. They used ADF#B (not A at the end) open cord tuning. I used a capo to match their tuning. I could've used GCEA but Chalmers Doane insisted me to use the open D cord. Listen to the tuning of his ukulele carefully as James explains the music. It's a higher tone than the open C cord.

@sclongisawesome In fact, he's actuall pronouncing it a more modern English way. Which I guess technically means he is pronouncing it correctly, however it is more common to use the more traditional way with a long u.

Damn straight cèilidhs are Canadian.... A large percentage of the population are descended from Scottish and Irish immigrants. Nova Scotia means "New Scotland" for goodness sake! Modern day Nova Scotians have carried on the musical traditions of their forbearers. Check out the music of The Rankin Family, Natalie McMaster and other well known Cape Bretoners, and I think you will agree, they represent the home countries extremely well.

Lets be honest it's a Scots/Irish thing. Ceilidh Is the Gaidhlig spelling and where James comes from (Nova Scotia) I should imagine that is how it's spelt. However, I'm guessing your Irish from the spelling you use so all's cool. Alba agus Erin gu brath.
