Straight talker Sir James Dyson who persevered through failure to commercial success; ordinary less gifted mortals can learn a lot from his example.

There are 2 meanings to the word 'design' in the world of manufacturing. What James Dyson did with the bagless hoover is *total design* - design of both functional elements _and_ external styling. What Bertone, Pininfarina, etc do is simply *external form or styling design.* Most manufacturers leave functional design to their engineers. External styling, e.g. the shape of a car body, mobile phone or mouse, is something that can be subcontracted out to an industrial design house. Sadly, most companies leave all this under the control of their marketing/sales division - whose primary concern is turnover and profit margin. Their aesthetic appreciation is usually limited to amusing copywriting. My own view is that the progressive company ought to have a Design Director which embraces all aspects of design. This director is therefore free from control by either engineering or marketing directors, though naturally he/she must be mindful of physical and marketing realities for the product. Like all company directors, the Design Director shares full legal and moral responsibility for the management of the company - so it's not going to be a dream job for a spendthrift design guru, the business must make real profits from the endeavour.

Old Uncle Silas no the guests are always lumped together now. I still like the format, I think some smaller productions use looser formats like this tho. James is a good salesman tho considering the ability of the cleaner.

It’s Diana, before she became a princess. Well document fact. Her birth name was actually Arabella, but it was changed to Diana by the royal family to make her appear more noble. It was through this connection with Dyson, that she had asked the queen to knight him, just like “he ‘knighted’ me that fateful night after the the show we did on the telly”

I'm sorry Mr. Dyson, but your pink vacuum is a stupid idea that will never sell. That is exactly what I would have thought if I saw it for the first time in 1983.
