I worked at a tow company that had a 64 holmes 600 that is just like this one but smaller it's still in operation on a newer chassis very strong truck and wrecker

I never realized the tow boom on the old school wreckers separated like that, excellent design for doing a side pull parked on a highway when you can't have your rig out in the traffic lanes.

Works nicely also for undocking new trucks ....you'll see how new trucks are delivered one on top of the other(Decked) split the booms of the tow truck...take them down one at a time ...

Nice old Holmes 850! He needs to twin stack that thing though! I have a buddy that owns a Wrecker company here locally who owns an 850 and uses it regularly. Damn good piece of equipment!

when I was a kid I always wondered why on my oldest toy tow trucks they had 2 booms, I never saw one in real life when I was young. Now I know why they did. Old tow trucks did actually have that

I used to drive a wrecker in Nova Scotia back in the early nineties . It was a 480 Holmes that would split like that .For a 480 it was a beast but not as much as Mighty Mo .

Earnest Holmes made the first split boom in the 30s or 40s if you ever get the chance to go to the towing museum in chattanooga tennessee there's an 850 and many beautiful old tow trucks a picture of my truck in in the 2007 issue of tow times magazine. Great place to visit and kids will love the thousands of miniature toy tow trucks merchandise to buy

These "Old School" Trucks can keep up with and many time Out Work the "New Ones" And are MUCH SIMPLIER to operate ! I'm building a 1885 Holmes 600 with Holmes 750 Booms And Century Wheel Lift onto a 1997 Ford Louisville right now ! And will be able to do ANYTHING a $250K+ Wrecker will do !! And mine is PAID FOR !! New is Nice, But Paid For is Better !! I have 4 "Towtrucks" and 5 other "Support/Winch" trucks that are all "Old" but they pay my bills and I "Love" working them ! I'd LOVE to own this Holmes 850 Wrecker, And One Day I WILL have one !!. Awesome Truck Jamie, This truck was a VERY SMART Investment !!.

my self I would this truck is good for medium recovery it be good for towing big trucks. But for hevy recovery i would not send out a truck that is under 50 tune if your in a area that has a lots of big trucks with bad area's that has bad accidents you have to have a big rotator if you don't have one the other Co. that does have one your going to Lose that job and more that trucking Co. will call that other company every time they know they have the equipment to do the job every time. If i was going to call for help between Davis or the green goblum I would call the green goblum

I use "Old Equipment" every day !!! Why would the "Year" matter as long as it "Gets the Job Done" !?!?!?. Before you run your mouth, Try doing our job for just a week, And you'll run back to the "Office and A/C" !!!.

Who's the dummy out there with the flip flops on it's a good way to lose your toes.. sharp-looking homes 850.
