For these who didn't understood Cameron comments on Thanos: Weta (who made vfx for LoTR and Planet Apes) and Digital Domain (James Cameron's visual effects company) worked on making the visual effects for Thanos. Cameron was comparing the work of ILM (founded by George Lucas for SW, vfx for several disney movies, and also for Ready Player One ) VS the work that Weta and DD did in terms of facial capture for Thanos. He wasn't critizing Thanos effects, he was praising it! ILM has done amazing work in VFX for many movies (including vfx for several marvel movies, including some of the avenger infinity war vfx), but Weta has been focused on motion and face capture in the last two decades, and currently -as Cameron says- they are the best in the industry.

We saw the movie and it was really awesome. Although the beginning didnt click for me, after too many years had passed between this and the last movie, seeing that jungle type scene again, it didnt give me much compared to when I first saw it in the original movie. It took a bit, but once they were in the "Waterworld" (terrible hint :D ) area of the planet, things became really awesome. And I do get Cameron's idea of reminding us to respect ourselveds and each other, so that we're not like what people are in this movie. Although I feel humans will be always that. But although I got the whole idea of raising awareness how not OK it is, to still hunt whales. But the amount & intensity, not to mention how much time in this movie was spend in these scenes, with the whales was a bit too much for my taste. Yes, I know, whales are hunted by people with harpoons etc. but I mean, this was far too much what they kinda did to those space whales (which lookedb beautiful btw.) was just too much. It went passed the point where it just raised awareness in me, it went to an amount of really tasteless movie time, because it was too much. It could have been condensed to a more moderate amount of what these people did to the space whales. That was like 20 Minutes or so I could not enjoy as a movie whatsoever, and I have to admit, i was close to thinking about leaving the theater. It was just too much and too intense, to put that in a movie like this. I mean, this movie has an age rating of 12. And while I think, especially the younger generation these times lack all sorts of respect and finesse when it comes to how to live, but with this amount of anti-animal behaviour shown, I think it goes beyond a point those kids could ever enjoy the movie again. Lucky it became better later again, and I was glad we stayed til the end. But if it would have gone on even longer than it already did, we would have left the cinema.

First of, James still ain't "that old" yet. Pushing 70 sure but he is healthy. And his knowledge of computer terms, that's just ageist and disrespectful how you put it, his prime was in the 90s and that's when the big graphics card revolution happened. He was just 40, early 40s when Quake came out for example, he was a freaking adult in unlike many of us who were just kids at the time. There are tons of stuff he could've read or learned at the time. My dad (born 1953) would talk about pixels and resolutions a ton, being a huge fan of Battlezone (1998) and Command & Conquer. And so am i. He literally brought DooM to my childhood and childhood home, we owe people like this alot. The creators of some of the best game franchises in especially the early mid 90s are in their 50s,60s and 70s now, they paved the way before us and we owe to show them respect.

@@Erikcleric lol I do respect them. But the majority of them are very set in their ways and have a hard time moving on. My comment was meant to be viewed in an exaggerated half joking manner but still a tad truthful in regards to my being impressed by this man's willingness to embrace the future. My parents are in their 50s as are most of my friends parents as well. I was simply noting on how progressive he is compared to most people I know that are even younger than him. A different example of what I'm getting at is that Quentin Tarantino still uses 35 mm film as opposed to digital still to this day. Nothings wrong with that but he refuses to embrace the future. Once again. Nothings wrong with his decision. He still kills it obviously but my point is that it's pretty cool to see an older guy wanting to constantly adapt his game to the latest available technology

It aint that freaking old man! It's incredible honestly, when Avatar came out and James was 55 or so, classic 50, not too old or too young, nobody commented then. That's not long ago either. Now that he is late 60, NOW he is suddenly so god damn old all of a sudden?

At least he's realistic about how long it could take to condense the process of performance capture from an extremely long time to a short amount of time. If James Cameron were to do a comic book movie, big IF right there, it would have to be from a more independent source. Not MARVEL or DC. Something that does well as a comic book, yet hasn't been considered to be adapted into a movie. He wanted to make Jurassic Park when he first read the novel, but Spielberg beat him to it. Cameron is a fantastic storyteller. The technology is now to a degree caught up with his imagination. That's what holds filmmakers back at times. Practical effects are impressive, but very limiting and high maintenance.

He did tried to direct anime/manga live-action though, Alita: Battle Angel. It was his long due project since the late 90s and because of not very advance technology at the time, he delayed it and when he's quite ready, he's too busy with Avatar schedule projects with 3 more franchise to come, he dropped Alita project and hand it over to his co-director/friend Robert Rodriguez (director: Sin City, Dust Till Dawn) Then helped with special effects and produce it. But that is in the past now. I just hope oneday he make atleast one great anime adaptation before his full retirement as a director.

Can’t diss either because it would still undermine the other within the same genre. I’m pretty sure he’s always spoke his mind given past interviews and his personality. However, Disney wrote a check for this movie. He can’t screw over his sponsor. Scorsese, on the other hand doesn’t work for Disney, hence his harsh opinion on both studios.

Cameron could do an animated limited series, maybe a prequel or a spin off set in the same continuity, showing the first time the Na'vi made contact with humans. I'm no writer or director, but hear me out. It could be set on Pandora with it being from the perspective of a young Na'vi, the tribe leaders son? You yet a little backstory, regarding their planet, their tribe and their parents(maybe a forest tribe seperate from the omatikaya) with voice over from the young Na'vi when he's older, showing the Na'vi child coming to the understanding of what it means to be a Na'vi. Maybe this tribe doesn't believe in Eywa? Maybe they don't have the hair link so they feel like Eywa has abandoned them?? They find a different way to be one with the nature and animals of Pandora that doesn't involve connecting with Eywa? Maybe you could have it so the child grows up and becomes the leader, he has kids and a partner but the new leaders partner gets killed by a humans, so the leader grows a hatred for the humans resulting in a war between this specific tribe and the humans. I know, sounds pretty bad. I'm no writer, but no story is thought of instantaneously. It takes time.
