Strangely His death was actually the best death out of all the godfathers. His acting during the strangulation was unbelievable.

He had propably seen it. Or done it himself. 100% he had seen/done some guy get strangled - maybe not to death but atleast until he passed out. So he used that. Because its too realistic for 70s movie. This was still time when actors did dramatic overacted death scenes. Which this could have turned easily without Lennys expertise.

Love Jimmy Caan, he was alot of fun! Met him, Robert Duvall, and Lenny Montana, in March, 71. Was there w/ my Grandmother, she was playing brides Grandma, sitting around table, eating, at wedding. Was filmed in Studio, in N.Y.C. I was 21, they befriended me, and asked me if I was playing part of Applonia! Had not read book. Told them, was there w/ Aunt, and Grandma, my Uncle had friend in City, was an agent. He knew Grandma, and asked Uncle, if she would be in movie. She had trip to Italy planned for May, when the wedding scene was being shot. Told them, she would do it, if they did it now, in March! We hung out all day, Jimmy, and Robert, took me around the studio. We snuck in room, where Brando, and Al Martino, were filming, scene, where Brando slaps Al, about the movie he wanted in! An asst. director, kicked us out! They showed me props, in prop room. We ate hot dogs, from wagon, in front. They asked me if I wanted to be in move! Sure! I said! They told me, the casting director would be there later. He came, they introduced me, and Jiimmy told him he wanted me to be in movie, and play bridesmaid part! When read the book, realized why! Director asked my uncles, agent friends name, he knew him. He took my info. ,and told me I would get a cal, end of May, for wedding scene, bridesmaid parts alreadycast. He would get me something! WOW! Also met Lenny Montana, he talked to me asked me to lunch, sometme, gave me his number. Never called him. Jimmy, asked me to dinner, told my Aunt, who was w/ Grandma, she told me, NO! Was jealous, she had daughter away in college, and told me if I went, she would not take me back in May, to Staten Island! Thouught llater, and for 40 yrs. lus, could have called my parents, and they would have said go! Could you imagine, turning Jimmy Caan down for a dinner date! Still, kicking mself! We ,had so much fun just talking, and hanging around studio, for 12 hrs. He was just like in the movie, funny, witty, etc.! They saw me in May, on set of wedding, and kissed and said hello! Happy, I got the call! Asked me what part was I playing. Said, just xtraa, well 5 minutes later, Francis F. Coppola, approached me, on long line of xtras, and asked, if read the book, said yes twice! He told me to go w/ a man, asst. director, in the gates to wedding, and I was to be the Baker, Nazorine's Daughter!WOW, Think, he and Duval, got me the part! Thanks, guys. Had 4 great fun filled days, w/ all the stars!!!My Aunt did not even get to go into the wedding gates, w/ family! She almost got thrown out, of movie, for bringing her daughter, now home from college, they did not use her! Met Pacino, Keaton, all stars young and old, still get residuals, and still kicking myself, for not going out w/ Jimmy!Wish I had a 2nd chance!LOL!GREAT MEMORIES! Cameras were not allowed, but everyone asking photographers to take pictures w/ me. Couple yrs. later, my Aunts Sister, told me my Aunt had photos of wherever she was, outside gates. She never told me, she knew you could go to Paramount Studios, in City, look thru negatives, and buy photos, you were in for $1 each, in color! I would have had tons, how mean, can a grown woman be???Sadly, Grandma, passed away, before movie came out, but she did have her last trip to Italy, where she was born!!!Live in Fl. now, got to be in 2 more movies here!!! My story!Jimmy, if ya see this, get in touch, I was the only one my age there that day in studio! The rest were kids, and real old ladies!!!!!Am on F.B., told I aged well! Boy, does time fly!

Keep in mind the storyline is that Luca was before the incident of the story mike mentioned to Kay a highly intelligent criminal mastermind and basically the baddest man in New York . He had tried to kill himself with a drug overdose and ended up somewhat slow in speech yet still as criminally ingenious and fierce as ever. The Don got him out of trouble with the police for the incident ( read the book family corleone ) and for that Luca is forever beyond loyal to Don Vito

Not only that but I've read somewhere that when Luca Brasi messed up his lines as he thanked the Godfather that was REAL. Francis Ford Coppola was brilliant enough to leave that in (not cut the scene during filming) and use that take (in editing). So adding the rehearsal scene later was definitely his way of punctuating that choice, kind of bookending the reality versus the fantasy aspects of his actual film-making, taking advantage of a casting decision, an actor's nerves, and transforming the depth of the film's character with further emotional dimension. It's a remarkably ingenious approach!
