James Bond First Editions and an Old BMW Motorcycle Discovered on a Ride into Blackheath, London!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I take a ride on my Triumph Bonneville with Monika, into one of my favourite parts of London- Blackheath. This beautiful part of the capital sits next to Greenwich park and is very much it’s own town within the wider city of London.
I find something that I get very overexcited by- a selection of first edition James Bond books from 1956 and 1957! As well as a beautiful old BMW R100RS motorcycle that looks like it hasn’t been ridden for years, and a few other special vehicles!
I also get a delivery from Triumph with some of their new motorcycle waterproof overlays, and some classically styled motorcycle that could be straight out of the 1950s and 60s.
Oh, and of course there’s the usual coffee stop.
And I show the difference in size between an American DOT approved helmet, and a European ECE approved helmet.
There’s a lot going on in this episode!
I hope you enjoy it!

I do like that K&Q seat on the Bonnie. Nothing like having your backside cupped gently by leather clad comfort! A little tip, if I may. You said you carry your waterproofs in the bottom of your bags. No, no, no good Sir. Keep them at the top. Sudden downpour, you don't want to be unloading all your other gear on to the Roadside, getting wet, just to get to your rain gear. It's worth the minor inconvenience of them being in the way at other times, don't ask me how I know! I found your channel a few days ago and I am slowly working my way through your back catalogue. Fun, entertaining and informative with the added bonus of Monica's excellent camera work a different perspective to many other vloggers. Brilliant stuff!

Enjoying your videos, as regards base layers in summer there are some very good ones out there that help you stay cool in hot weather , the Oxford cool wicking pants and top are reckoned to be good and the Halvesons ones that l have work really well, although you obviously still feel quite hot on warm days they do stop that uncomfortable stickiness.

Hi Freddie, I was wondering so why do you ride that old bonnie, is it SE model or something like that? Must be a style statement, something you really like and wanted for a long time when you were a kid, I can completely understand the feeling. Or is it, by now anyway more related to financial reasons? You wrote in the comments once something about the Triumph Bonnies makes you feel extra special and powerful, like you feel or had felt for a long time this bike suites you more than a newer model. Maybe something like the Speed twin, the new one that came out, I can really imagine that bike would fit you great. Maybe the 1200 Scrambler? I am allot like you though, I have my R9T roadster, still building it up to spec and what I always imagined my bike will become. But it will be done very soon, when it is I will keep it forever as my bike number 1. I would also like to buy a second bike soon, something a bit more unusual the Caballero Fantic 500 scrambler or Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. A perfect second bike for hooting about on gravel routes and roads. So like you two bikes of my choosing not really typical modern or even Neo/ Retro choice for today.

  • @FreddieDobbs

The Fantaic Caballero- GREAT shout! I've never tried one but really want to!! Regarding my Bonneville- it was always my dream bike and I love the perfect balance between modern tech (ie fuel injection) and old school air cooled character. Plus it's not quick (I prefer the slightly slower, more relaxed bikes), and it is very simple (something I really like). And it's great value- I bought it for £3,650 when I was a grocery van delivery driver and £3,650 was the absolute maximum load I could afford🙂

Your opinion about the aesthetics between the DOT helmet compared to the ECE is quite unprofessional. For your safety and your life the impact parameters are more important than the subjective idea of beauty. If you give more value at the dimension, buy a nice Chinese helmet, they are very thin. But I hope you'll never crash on the road. Anyway, there are several brands with both ECE standards an smaller too , premium prices, e.g. DMD, AGV or SHOEI. Some USA brands are now migrating (e.g. Biltwell) to ECE. ECE standard is now upgrading from 05 to ECE 22.06: it means helmets will be little bigger (for example, take a look to Shoei Glamster 22/06, one of the best rated helmet on the Market). Do your personal choice, but since I was hit twice on my motorbike, for me safety is more important than aesthetics
