I've listened to this song at least 100 times, it deserves it. I have watched about 20 reactions and the look on people's faces when they first get what the song is about and when the Dada comes into view is priceless. I've never seen a song move people like this one.

Crazy to realize that 'you're beautiful' came out in 2003... nearly 20 years ago. Mind blown, I officially feel old.

I just returned home after seeing my father's CT/MRI Scans. Stage 4 mucosal melanoma that he's fought for 2 years. It's returned to his liver, ribs, spinal column. He's 89, Mom is 90; He's in a special chemo protocol. Toughing it out. Preparing things. Getting things in order. Setting up to take care of his wife of 70 years. We've had our ups and downs and a large stretch in between where we barely spoke. But, the past few years and since this diagnosis/prognosis, I'm about to experience this. He has between 1-4 months and is 1200 miles away. This song is so true. I know his mistakes and he knows mine. And it doesn't matter. I'm his only son. This song is hard but, it helps. Seeing others react to it, too. We're still our father's sons.

He shot this entire video in one take bcz he and the crew didn’t think they could do it twice. Great reaction!

The man in the video is James Blunts's father, James Blunt wrote the song for his father who is dying, his kidneys are failing. There only working at 11%, James Blunt was a reconnaissance officer and a Captain in the Life Guards regiment of the British Army, he served under NATO during the 1999 Kosovo War.

"I folded your clothes on the chair" such a small thing we do as we straighten the room. My dad is dying slowly and horribly and we are just helpless witnesses in these last weeks. I wish I could play this for him. I am the daughter but he is a very stoic man and not affectionate. Every night i tell him to rest and I love him. He passed away 6/15/21 after i wrote this comment.

James Blunt donated the proceedings to Help for Heroes and the British Legion. Charities in the UK that help services and ex services people in the UK and the Commonwealth.

Yes, that is his dad. He has Stage 4 Kidney Disease. Shortly after this video was released he finally received a donor kidney and is doing better. This was the first time his dad heard this song. The producer wanted to edit out the cracks in his voice and James Blunt refused. Great reaction! Love James Blunt!

In 2006 I moved from Scotland to the US. In 2009 my wife and new baby returned to Scotland to visit my parents. After two weeks it was time to come home to the US. I remember on the drive to the airport leaning over and telling my wife that I was going to hug my Dad and tell him I loved him before we got on the plane. It wasn't something we ever really did, but I felt like I had to. At the airport my parents walked us to the security line and ..I choked. I gave my Dad a one-armed half-hug and told him "I'll see you later." I never seen my Dad alive again. To this day, the biggest regret of my life. Tell the people you love how you feel. Don't make my mistake.

I had to comfort my father in his last days. He had Alzheimer's and he was so afraid. I wasn't there when he died but I had seen him just a few hours before. This song is beautiful.

This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. James Blunt is incredible.

James Blunt has a beautiful voice, but in this video his voice was raw from the emotions he was feeling -- the tears in his eyes. And thank you, for having the video we see on the screen large enough that we can all see those tears and his facial expressions which are both affected by his emotions.

Enjoy your time with your dad however you can. I just built some garden stuff and moved a few tonnes of earth with mine. He's in his mid 70's and refuses to not share the work equally - the joy of being able to share something as simple as a little garden project is wonderful.

He makes you feel because it is real. (for every person that has ever lived)

He does seem like a genuine, nice guy. Even if you dislike his music, you can't really hate him. He takes all the abuse in good spirits, has a sense of humour and he never appears like a dick.

It's the bit when he sings "while you're sleeping I'll try to make you proud". That always get me man! Yes that's his dad. It's a very emotion fueled song but when the camera pans out and he's sitting with his dad is nice.

You did a nice job of sharing what you saw and felt...and not knowing exactly the situation...trying to walk through what you sensed maybe was the case. I found your closing about not watching again...fascinating. As a 67 yr old white guy who studies suffering...let me offer a different place of perception... If you listen to what you said...you offered that the music made you think about emotional things you didn't want to think about, if I understood you correctly. If you abstract the relationships that James is pointing to of son/father...notice that practically every relationship of value to you...has things unsaid...in which it could be 'just two grown people saying good-bye'. You're a male...and your socialization amongst other males...so often leaves males deeply isolated from what they really feel...as their feeling are often denied because they make tears appear...and unshared if they make you gentle...present...and in any way scary to the males who've been driven into hyper-masculinity to meet the needs most often of a wounded father. Blunt's visual relationship could be ANY relationship of value. Implicit in not wanting to deal with the emotional work again...is that you think you have time to understand...perceive...learn...how to be a male present, in this here...this now...which can basically be understood as our famous 'tomorrow' that never comes...because it's always...tomorrow. Strokes and heart attacks don't tell us they're coming...next Tuesday. They grab a life and drag it off the street without anyone sensing what happened until the autopsy. No time to say 'good-bye' or I'm sorry...or I love you...or 'You still owe me that $500 bucks!' Poof! Gone. And waiting...you always thought you'd have time...because you were afraid of screwing up the moment? My 94-yr old father is waiting to leave...patiently...impatiently...as he's grown so disgusted with his nation...his extended family...his world...as our worship of gold and power continues to tear down and tear apart things his generation fought to protect and ensure...as imperfect as they were. We've had the conversation...'two grown men saying good-bye' because we dealt with our debris after the death of my mother 37 years ago. I've been listening to Blunt's song on loop off and on for weeks...because music that moves us...helps us find in ourselves unresolved memories and their meanings...and etches in memory tools of music that might be of assistance for others in dealing with unresolved emotions in their lives. I've probably watched 75 reactions...as I work on developing cultural tools to assist people to address their real lives we teach them to ignore and deny. I'm not suggesting that you are in some denial or anything...but you did seemingly point to your not wanting to think about these kind of conversations now. I use to teach sociology at a Big Ten school...and I use to lead certain classes in death meditations...to help them come close to facing their own demise...and what did they want to do...which often leads to repairing the space between oneself and people one cared about...until hurt. I would encourage you to learn to swim in uncomfortable waters...until you are comfortable in them...because the discomfort is always fear of one's own inadequacies...and the best nurturance for that...is staring into 'mirrors' until we see ourselves...and recognize our fears are without roots. Another emotional song of James Blunt's - and one of my absolute favourites - is 'Carry You Home,' which James wrote in honour of fallen comrades when he was in the army. Well worth a watch and react, especially if you're a fan of his.

First off, this song hit home for me so much. I sat next to my dad as he passed in my home after a long illness. We never had what I would call a great relationship, but when he became ill, my family and I decided to bring him into our home for the time he had remaining. He passed with me, my wife, and his grandchildren at his side. This song really resonates the feelings one has at that most difficult time. Your reaction was dead on. Thank you for playing it.

Thank you for reacting to this song. Here in Canada during the covid lockdown my father has been living in a extended Care facility which also in lock down when he passed away. His health was continuously fading and I was not allowed in to see him for months. With the time of his passing drawing near and with him no longer being able to verbally communicate I had to say my goodbyes to him over a video call. During the call I played this song for him and I could see the tears starting to roll down his face. At that moment I knew he could still hear, and understand everything that was being said to him. And just how much I loved him and was proud to be his son. It was the hardest time I have ever faced in my life because I just wanted to be there to hold his hand before his time came. This song will forever remind me of that moment.

they way you just discribed your view on how powerful, James, realizing an opportunity he had to let his father hear, see and know how much he has loved him,was as emotional to me as is the song,you Mr.made me cry by being so in tune with genuine emotions.

What a beautiful song and voice. The first part of the song you are hearing him singing to his father that passed. But no. Yes, sure others have already posted, but that’s his father. From what I’ve read, they had a strenuous relationship, but reconciled. Amazingly beautiful song. I tear up every time I hear it.

His father had stage 4 kidney failure, and they wasn't able to find a match. Everyone on the set cried but his father. He said why are you crying, I'm still here. James refused to autotune, he wanted it to be raw. After, a distant cousin matched, and the father got his transplant and is doing well. James donated the money to veterans. Both james and his father have served. James is such an underrated artist. He's a brilliant musician and a wonderful human being.

This one makes me ugly cry every damn time. I wish my father would let me be close, we talk on special occasions only, 3-4 sentences.
