When I was 7 years old my father passed away from cancer. This album was just about all my mom would listen too. I remember being young and his album with music videos was always on her tv. She would just listen over and over again. I could see her pain but she never wanted me to see her get hysterical. She would take hour long showers and that’s where she would cry. This song in particular she had on replay most of the time. I’m 20 now and we still put it on every once in a while and remember that amazing man. Rest In Peace dad, I still miss you and call out to you just about everyday.

Very true words, though I tend to agree with PartiZAn18 in that I think it's the strongest, deepest love that's the hardest to let go of. Believe it or not, I met mine in prison. 25+ years ago, I was a heroin addict and one day my 'guy' called saying he had some wicked shit and plenty of it. I had no money at the time so I 'borrowed' a pistol from someone who I knew had one, drove to the bank in my own car, parked out front, then walked in and robbed one of the tellers, walking out around 12G richer. (I'd only just turned 20 so I wasn't really thinking AT ALL!!). Anyway, I was caught and sentenced to sixteen years in prison. Got out on parole after four years but fucked up so I went back in. I knew it was going to be a long stretch so I was pretty depressed. One day this crewcut, tattooed, white supremacist came walking into my cell where I was sitting on the bed reading a text book for the uni course I'd started. He just plonked down on the bed and put his head on my lap and without thinking, I started stroking his hair. Within a couple weeks, everyone knew that Doogie and ****** were best mates and after a couple months we were an acknowledged couple. It's actually pretty common amongst lifers and those doing long sentences because even though a person might be heterosexual, the loneliness and lack of human touch really start to get to you. Anyway, we were together from 96 to 03 when I was released. I didn't want to go and contemplated doing something so that I'd get more time but it was pointed out to me that, while I'd get the extra time, I would also get a higher classification and might be moved to a different prison, so ****** told me to set up a place and wait for him to be released in 06. I did this and got a job and we wrote to each other every other day; so desperate to see each other again. When he did get out, it was brilliant; the world was wearing xmas tree ornaments. After only six months, though, the fact that before gaol, my ****** was straight started to become a big issue for us. One day we had a fight and both ended up crying like girls and he admitted that he wasn't attracted to me anymore; we tried our hardest but when the lease was up six months later we broke up. I still pine for him. I haven't been able to form a relationship with anyone since; male or female, and I don't think I ever will. The point of this tome of a comment would be that, in my opinion, a person's true love can come out of the blue and it stays with you forever. It's like a heroin addiction in that the first few times are amazing and after that it's just years and years of trying to achieve that same feeling again, which is impossible. I just hope that the saying about how we all get ONE true great love aren't true because I want to feel that again.

I used to listen to this and sing this a lot in my late teens and early 20s. Now at 31 it is so far in the past that it feels so unhealthy... Still a great song though. The pain of people going through losing someone important to them (either through death or break-up) is very real. Thankfully James still makes good music today with other messages.

Played this at my Mum’s funeral, I lost her when I was 12 to cancer. 26 now and I still come back to this song from time to time. It’s a odd melancholy feeling, it both makes me cry and smile at the same time. Damn I miss her, but she’s at peace now and not in any pain.

This song is all about my first love. Went to James Blunt's concert together. Our first night together was to his music. When we broke up, this song literally brought me to tears. Life has brought me beautiful things since then, but sometimes my thoughts go back to then and to her.

My god.... I was married over 20 years with my best friend, had three children with her but last year we broke up unexpectedly as she met someone and I lost everything in a week. Spending 6 beautiful years with him, he was my first for everything. He showed me how to love, how to trust, how to be happy, he showed me how beautiful life could be.. full of different colors and happiness.. he brought me so much happiness but he also hurt me when he decided to leave me.. when he said he wanted to separate I knew what it meant to be hurt.. it was much more than emotional it was also physical pain.. this pain in my chest that till this day I still feel.. it's been almost two years since he decided to leave but it still hurts, it hurts a lot.
