I have seen so many videos on swing bowling so far. It always fascinated me since childhood and I tried to adopt the bowling action of various greats with only inconsistent results. Many interviews by fast bowlers like Wasim, Waqar, Lee, Kapil Dev etc. never made things clear for me on things like seam direction, finger pressure and wrist movements. Only when I saw Jimmy Anderson's interview, I realized how to swing a new ball. James Anderson is a the best fast bowler in my generation. Period.

This was the young Jimmy.. The older one more experienced one is more deadly as he himself don't know which way the bowl will swing while bowling with that wobbly seam.. GOAT

He knows which way it goes when he bowls swing, but when he bowls the wobble (as you said) he doesn’t know which way it will bounce off the seam, that ball doesn’t swing though

He is a legend Respect for him 🙌🙌

Its his run to bowl style that keeps in no injury zone and for his advantage comes, the wrist and finger movements. Great ergonomics he has.

his home club saw fit to "re-model" his action bcos his face was looking at the pitch! True! Then he got a back injury! cost him a year of his career! Bright people these... ffff

Jimmy Anderson is the best seem bowler currently , and a joy to watch .. playing test cricket at this stage of career is not easy task.

The thing which makes him more successful in swinging ability along with taking wickets as compared to other bowlers like Asif e.g is that his ball moves only a few centimeters; you don't see a big movement or drift once the ball pitches so instead of a dot chance, it's a successful edge.

One of the best bowlers we enjoyed watching

Although me an over optimistic Indian fan, I still want Anderson to play for another decade.

Anderson swings the ball by doing Anderson things. Pure magic.

What an inspiration Jimmy is My fav 💓

pitches have changed in last 10 years or so its more toward batting than bowling icc needs to keep them balance.

It’s a shame that the commentator Simon Hughes gets this completely opposite. For the away swinger to the left hander, Jimmy uses the Middle finger. For the inswinger, he uses the index finger. Jimmy has said this himself in interviews, and if you look closely you can see it in this video.

Correct. For bowling an inswing to right hand batsman, the role of middle finger is more. For bowling outswing to RH batsman, the role of index finger is more.

Anderson is my ideal, as a local cricketer before match i see Anderson blowing videos.

POV: It’s 2023 and Anderson is back at number 1 test bowler in the world at age 40

Anderson's success lies in his control of length... Not just a swing

They got this the wrong way around. If he is making the ball move right. Away from left hander, in to the right hander, he puts more pressure with the middle finger down the seam. If he is making the ball move to the left, in to the left hander (away from the RH) he drags the index finger down the seam with more pressure. It's confusing but the commentator got this wrong. Jimmy does his own instruction on sky explaining it. You can also see from the freeze frames

Dear Sir, you're wrong. For Inswing to Left Hander, you have to apply extra pressure on your index finger,rather than Middle finger. And the last point of contact should be the Index finger(as jimmy said it in a video) Similarly, you have to apply more pressure on Middle finger rather than Index finger when you aim to bowl Outwsinger to Left hander, and the last point of contact should be the middle finger. That's how he said it and that's how we(fast bowlers) do it. Hope it helps

I think this is incorrect.. as i have seen that the index finger is the last to leave the ball for outswing and the middle finger last to leave for inswing

People need to realize that what Anderson does is not normal.
