Faith doesn't equal a magical man reading everyone's minds, but faith does allow for a held ethic that you use to guide your life and specifically to give you an ideal to strive for. I'd argue that everyone has that. Even the scientific view does, as a scientist accepts the fact that what they know isn't fact. That's by definition unprovable, but it's followed because it works so goddamn well. That same paradigm finds itself everywhere, and can be seen explicitly in ethical analysis. So at the end of the day, we're all doing the same thing. The Christians just put a concrete magical man in the sky up there just because it makes the ethic more concrete or tangible, especially when the magical man is a man

I was raised Catholic and think no child should be led to believe that if they don't confess to a priest that they disrespected their parents in some miniscule way and atone for this sin by praying that their chances of burning forever just went up. Doing things like not hurting other people because it "works" seems an oversimplification of just not doing horrible things because you can recognize they're horrible. L Y R I C S ! Picked up on it first thing You weren't like the ones I'd known Might've been from the same place But coming from somewhere all your own Few hours on a wooden bench That's all it took to do me in Knew then I had to make it quick Before I made us fall into sin I don't know where we're going But I know I want you to go with me Don't care much about the destination As long as you're there, that's where I wanna be Talking took a different tone Started to make you cry What if there's no way for us to know What happens when we die The blur from those tears faded And you saw it for yourself Hard truths all turn to maybes And more than a savior, we needed help I don't know where we're going But I know I want you to go with me Don't care much about the destination As long as you're there, that's where I wanna be Moved west to the devil's town Losing old and making new friends Finally put our crosses down And watched those two boys start to turn to men So much we'd been warned about Ended up being pretty good I keep waiting for the bottom to drop out Like we said it would Still don't know where we're going But I know I want you to go with me Caring less and less about the destination As long as you're there, that's where I wanna be I'd like to go back to the old us Take your hand and say it's all gonna be okay We could only do what they told us Without that, who knows who we'd be with today I don't know where we're going But I know I want you to go with me Don't care much about the destination As long as you're there, that's where I wanna be As long as you're there, that's where I'm gonna be
