All this shows is this couple got preferential treatment where as the average person wouldn't have even gotten a call back from the FBI. It also shows that the FBI has the ability to arrest these scammers quite easily if they actually cared.

You are 100 percent correct. If the scammer didn't mess with the fbi and or cia , this would of never happened. I'm certain there is some good fbi agents out there . I think it's the leadership of the two aforementioned agencies that are corrupt to the core.

People lose thousands of dollars on these scams and the FBI "can't find" the scammer. A former CIA, FBI director doesn't lose a dime, but gets a call, and the FBI is able to find the scammer right away.

Did they expect this to be some sort of feel good story? All we learned is that the scammers will only get caught if the victim has connections to law enforcement. Really sad.

My father got one of those "grandparent scam" calls recently. The caller said he was his grandson and he needed money because he was in the hospital due to a car accident. My father has only one grandchild and he was sitting in the room when the scammer called. My dad played along for a minute then asked "how can you be in the hospital when you're sitting right here?" The scammer hung up.

Yes, when you are the former head of the CIA and FBI, no doubt they have the best of connections both figuratively and literally to deal with these matters. The rest of us don't have that luxury and as always, if it an unrecognized caller don't answer as if they are a legitimate caller they will leave a message. If you do happen to pick up the phone do NOT engage the caller, simply say nothing and hang up and block that number.

Blocking the number doesn't matter; they are taking over random phone numbers to make these robo calls, and constantly switch. I get literally 10 of these a day now, and never a repeat phone number. I've had people who I know call me, leave a message asking if I just called them. I had not. But I'm sure the scammers took over my phone to make the call to that person.

@@e2dwf976 There is a whole syndicate of them, their numbers go down daily. They get new ones the next day when they know they are found out. They do most f it from a script, I have called them myself several times with some funny results which I no longer have streams for. Like Calling as Marty McFly from Hill Valley California. This is not the only scams Nigerians, and Jamaican scammers do, there are a lot more. It is however a very common one.

@@rayrussell6258 A lot of their numbers are text - now, or when they call you spoofed numbers, they don't really take over numbers of other people, if not it is usually some other VOIP service. The PCH scam bosses however sometimes put money into more dedicated lines, but they do not put this number on the robo-dials, they only give that to whom they suspect are victims, or have stolen from. VOIP numbers are often easy to get with little, or no money, and can be disconnected quickly if they are caught.

From 500 miles away and a different state. That's right, I crossed state lines. When I called the local law enforcement with that information, they STILL told me nothing could be done. When I suggested that I should track her down myself and dish out a little " street justice" guess what I was told. That's right... the officer told me I could be charged with assault. So don't for ONE FUC#ING MINUTE tell me that the laws don't favor the criminals. Unless, of course, you're " connected".

They were able to trace him in a different country and monitor him long enough to arrest him when he traveled to the USA ....just wow

It took the former FBI director to get scammed to catch them. Only caring youtubers are trying to get this stopped.

The multi tiered US justice system.

Would be nice if they would take this action for everyone.

I was hoping they would show the guy from Jamaica getting busted.

I wonder how much of tax payer's money was spent on this operation tracking this scammer all the way to Jamaica then getting him back to the US all because they hurt these former public servant's ego.

My phone got put on a health insurance scam list, and I was getting calls every 10 minutes. I called the Mass attorney general's office, the insurance institute, the consumer reporters at the TV stations, and the insurance fraud department. The ones who bothered answering the phone told me there was nothing that they could do.

Shit. My parents got lit up like a Christmas Tree and continued getting scammed multiple times and ways. Wouldn't listen to me at all.

I often get 5+ scam calls per week. I'll sometimes pick up and waste their time. My heart goes out to the elderly who are victims of this.

It’s best not to pick up at all. Even if you do pick up and say nothing that automatically lets those scammers/telemarketers know that this number is in use and then will sell your information(phone number) to other telemarketers and you will start receiving even more unwanted calls

Good luck trying to get any kind of law enforcement to help you. Every single time I've called law enforcement for any kind of help I was treated with distain and harshly like I was the criminal. They just don't care about the average citizen.

There is no one you can report these scams to , he is well connected is all.

I never answer the phone if I don’t know the callers. If you leave a message on my answering machine about any matter, it’s me who decide to call you back. Period!

This is the first time I've ever heard of one of these guys getting arrested. I guess the rest of us must be the right targets...

They get arrested and extradited from Jamaica to face criminal charges in the US a lot but not every case is news worthy.

Lucky break on this one. The vast majority of scammers are from India demanding payment via gift cards or wanting to refund money directly to your bank account. But to do so you are required to use their "secured server" then log into your account. That gives them access to drain the account behind a blacked out screen. Everything looks normal until you log back into the account.

There is the very unlikely situation here that the caller was actually in the US. That pretty much never happens.

I had a cop tell me everyone steals. Guess it's if you have the right connections.

I always play along and then call them a big bozo and they get really mad!

On car warranty, they look for vehicles about 4 - 5 years old and a common make and model. So subtract 4 years from the current year. Next use some old car like Studebaker (avoid Ford Model A or T, good scammers know them). Listen for keyboard clicks as they do a search for the model, pause, maybe curse & they hang up.

Call them “Ullu Ka Patta” it translates something along the lines of “you foolish owl.” I don’t understand, but the scammers that call me get really angry when I say it 😂

I used to get a lot of calls from Grand Prairie TX. that were scam callers and had to block them.

The ONLY reason he got caught was that his victim was a former FBI and CIA connect. The rest of us 90k victims don't have that gov't hook-up.

What we need is an easy way to report these callers and capable people on the other end doing something with the data to stop it. Monitoring the accounts of loved ones is not an effective solution to this problem.

I get about two dozen of these calls each day. I have called the FBI and police and they never investigated. I guess you need connections.

If only all the millions of people that were scammed and are being scammed had the same FBI connections

The sad part is the millions are getting scammed and nothing is being done. To us regulars they would say “wait in line” in addition, all those stolen money are going to high end companies like Prada, Gucci, Rolex, BMW and so on. They need to stay making these companies ask questions.

Just let all unidentified phone numbers to go to voice mail or just don't answer the call.

FBI don’t really handle these scammers. Reported these scammers and still receiving more. The retired CIA & FBI got first priority, this is favoritism and we all pay their salaries.

My dad always tells me growing up "Your paper doesn't matter anymore, it's who you know that matters."

Imagine threatening the wife of the CIA and FBI. Most scammers move on when they can't get money from you.

Not everyone have the FBI at their fingertips. Good on them in any event 👏

I use to work at a call center that did outbound call sales. We had two different types of call queues. One for current cellphone customers and one for landline customers. Roughly 90% of my calls, on landline, were elderly and some senile. I hated calling them because it was so easy to get them to sign up for tv packages that I knew they didn’t need or want but management pushed us. We were disciplined if they heard we didn’t try hard enough on calls. I ended up switching to a different campaign(inbound calls for insurance) because I thought It would be easier. I quit mid training. I guess call centers aren’t my thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

Exciting, but kinda sad that this person got special treatment. If a regular person was scammed or attempted to be scammed, they don't get the attention and they're just out of luck. This story really shows where our priorities are and it's quite sad.

Don't answer the phone simply as that. If it's something important they'll leave a message. You can call back also to confirm its not a spoofed call.

Regardless of this couple's connections, the fact remains that EVERYONE needs to talk to their elderly loved ones, neighbors, or friends about these scams. It's easier to prevent the abuse than to remedy it after the fact! Plus, scammers are routinely extradited from Jamaica, so the notion that the FBI sleeps on this for other victims but jumped on it for these two is uninformed.

good, I'm sick of this country as allowing these scammers to get away. There needs to be a law! My dad and Grandpa have already had this happen to them

Thats a great tip. Just become the former director and you can call them to arrest the scammers. That might be more hassle than its worth tho.

Unfortunately, in countries like India, they have hundreds of scam call centers, Law enforcement arrests roughly .05 % of them annually. Sometimes the law enforcement there is paid to look the other way, or there is way too many or them to actually ever get them all.

Yay! There are a couple of scammers who have been repeatedly calling me now for several years. I have tried reporting it, but nothing has happened. I'm glad one of them was caught.

All this can be avoided by simply not answering the phone if the caller ID is a phone number (as opposed to someone already in your phone contacts). Legitimate callers will, more often than not, leave you a voicemail if they truly need to talk to you; from there, you can decide whether or not you want to add them to your phone contacts list so that the next time they call, their caller ID will identify them.

Now these asshats are using local numbers. Got a call from my plumber on his number. The caller was a scammer. He regretted calling me. I think I made him cry.

That's what I dont get. Why answer it? When I get a, "scam likely," call, I don't answer it and immediately block the number.

Damn none of the scammers or callbots thatve bothered me have ever threatened to splatter my brains over the wall. 😂. Thats a special type of scammer and a VERY special pair of seniors. Hope he gets locked up for a while.

Beware of not only phone scammers but Internet scammers as well. I went over to an older veteran's home to fix his PC a few yrs ago, & boy had the scammers got to him. 32 viruses, 234 malwares. He was too inept to know his introductory virus software expiration meant it no longer functioned...

WOW!!! The FBI ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING RIGHT!?!?!

This is where they messed up, they show us his picture. Scammers are like dogs in a pack they run together, show his face and we'll find some more by locating his friends

Whenever they call I just hang up. If they callback I just don’t pick up.

The scammer will get no more than a 30 day sentence. CIA should have taken him to a black site facility For Some intensive counseling.

They got help not just because of the scam, but because they were Threatened with physical violence!! And them being ex- FBI, this is taken very seriously! Also, it's unusual for scammers to resort to such threats! That scammer was probably a part of much larger network run by an organized crime syndicate! Why didn't the FBI go after the whole group?

I hear ya. But they terrorize these old people. The most disgusting one I heard was the threat of arrest. They said the police were on their way. Then played a continuous siren. Poor senile woman had a meltdown. So they got a lot in their bag of tricks. Physical violence threats are just one of the common ones.

Scammers love to call at inconvenient times like between 8 am - 10 am.

If they only did this with everyone, it’ll be great. This was an EGO battle more than anything.

It’s really nice when you can call the FBI when you’ve got a problem most of us can’t do that most of us have to put up with scammers threatening us the FBI doesn’t come to just anybody’s defense you have to be somebody special like they are

Who came up with this Horse Shit story?! Sounds super fake... At least the part that the scammer threatened to kill them with all that graphic detail... I've never heard of scammers threatening that way or going into such detail what they would do... This is such bullshit. This story would have been a lot better if it was just a random person... But because it was a former FBI CIA director... Somebody actually did something about it.... A perfect example of bullshit system

Did you see the video to where an engineer with a lot of help from others in India let loose a lot of cockroaches in several call centers? Just look for here on KZread. What needs to be done is for the U.S. Ambassador to India have a few stern warnings to the Indian government to get a handle on it. Blocking ALL phone calls from India even for a short time would be an effective deterrent.

I always visit my grandma and I remind her about scam phone calls, tell her how if she ever gets worried we can go to social security office to check her account because the scammers like to say they are SS. She now hangs up on all and I check her call logs
