Jamaica Is NOT Dangerous

Stay in the tourist areas with a legit guide and you’ll be fine. We felt completely safe, as did the thousands of other families who we saw on tours. Regardless of what the silly State Department says, these areas are no more dangerous than Orlando. Maybe they should issue warnings for Orlando, New York, LA, Houston, Philadelphia, and Chicago too.

I hate to break your guys' idealized image of Jamaica's Edenic paradisal bliss but, sure the touristy parts of Jamaica are wonderful, the real parts of Jamaica are extremely violent. Over 1100 murders happen here every year. And they'll kill you in the streets, in the mall, the schools, in church, they don't care. You tourists are fine though.

Lots of travel restrictions to different states but as an American, they're certain places ine don't travel too. Additionally, America land mass is 80x the size of Jamaica with a population of 325million vs 6million Jamaican. Jamaica has a death rate of 7.3 per 1000 while US death rate is 9.2 per 1000.. For a small island of 6million ppl thats a staggering death rate.. JS.

I LIVE in Jamaica. It is dangerous. I live in St.James and we have been in a state of emergency for a few years! There’s military checkpoints everywhere. Last year someone 2 houses down got straight up murdered! The killer just walked right in, shot him, then left. An extremely large portion of drivers licenses are FAKE(so lots of road accidents.)And there’s bearly any police! And that’s only the crime side. Internet, electricity, and water outages are relatively common as well. So in summary, we’re overrated.

The funny thing about the US travel advisory is that it totally factors out the fact that they haven't provided any evidence that tourists are actively being targeted or affected by crime here. The overwhelming majority of crime activity affect locals and this is targeted. It doesn't directly affect most locals, the crime is usually between gang factions and their unfortunate associates. Or targeted towards certain businesses such as wholesales, transport operators, and as of recent, brinks trucks. Only a few instances have occured where tourists are targeted. Most tourists stay within protected resorts and buses transport them around the island which do not venture certain places. Mind you, for tourists/travellers who opt to disregard all the negative narrative and traverse the forbidden areas, there will be some criminals who are daring enough to target them, however, I fathom that a good portion of criminals factor in the idea that it is wise not to interfere with foreigners especially from countries such as the US, Canada, and Britain, for the reason that this will compromise the tourism industry, these countries will in turn sanction Jamaica and if you mess with the money the government relies on to steal, you will see real crime fighting towards the criminals, again they must be sensible enough to figure this out. Btw, the US is rather hypocritical in its advisories as it is not much better with crime. Look at Chicago, Atlanta, New York, LA, etc. They have gang violence like Jamaica, plus more, because we don't have to worry about the threat of psycho shooters and the threat of geopolitical enemies attacking at any moment. So in essence, they are a more dangerous country than us. As I said, most Jamaicans aren't even being killed like that and it's def not happening to tourists. And they know this, so anybody who believes that America is an ally to Jamaica, is deluded, because they're trying to knock food out of our mouth. Must not have fared well with Jamaica doing business with China.

Jamaica for a very long time in it's history was under the British , i cannot understand where in Jamaicas history did they get influenced by the Spanish and Frence . I know for sure that places like St Lucia and Dominica were once under France ,and they speak French creole . Was Jamiaca ever under French or Spanish rule ?

@@angel_qu3en Jamaican dialect is actually just mostly broken English with a little African in it , there is no French or Spanish anywhere in it . Places like Dominica and St Lucia used to be ruled by France at one time they can still speak a French based creole . During the eightheen hundreds French creole was widely spoken , and even now there are still alot of Frence words in the Trinidad dialect . What Trinidadians know as patois is actually French creole ,like they speak in Haiti , Martiniqu ,Guadalupe , St Lucia and Dominica , because the same Frence creole was widely spoken 1800s . Even the very early calypso songs From Trinidad were sang in Frence creole , there are even early recorded calypsos that were sang entirely in French patois .
