Jalen Suggs Is Better Than You Think.

Спорт

Jalen Suggs was a hyped prospect entering the NBA. For most of the draft cycle he was viewed as the consensus number 4 prospect in the draft. Behind the big three off Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, and Jalen Green. However Suggs went 5th in the draft to the Magic. As the raptors chose to take Scottie Barnes over him. Which has proven to be the right pick. Suggs hasn’t had the start to his career that many thought. He hasn’t become the cornerstone that the Magic expected as Franz Wagner has taken that spot from him. But this season I think he’s proving he has a real role with this Magic team. And he’s better than you think he is.
Oddly enough I think Jalen Suggs is very similar to Marcus Smart. Now I know it may sound lazy. Just comparing a great defensive young guard to one of the best defensive guards of his generation. But when you really look at it. It oddly lines up. They had similar numbers as freshman in college. And both were consensus 2nd team all Americans, and first team all conference as freshman. They went at similar spots in the draft. And Suggs nba career numbers so far are similar to Smart’s career numbers in the NBA. They even have similar strengths and flaws. Both are strong physical defensive guards. Both have high motors and make those hustle plays that don’t show up in the box score. Both have clear playmaking intangibles. Both are capable of positive offensive games. Both profile more as complimentary options rather than primary options. But both are also inconsistent in terms of shooting consistency and shot selection. Both are players who can be a bit out of control at times and let the emotions get the best of them. It’s not a one to one comparison. Smart has better positional versatility on defense and is a bit stronger. But it’s kinda undeniable how similar those two are.

Jalen Suggs` confidence level has exploded in the past 2 years that I have been following the Orlando Magic. He's becoming a joy to watch and I think he will continue to improve over time! Way to go Jalen!

Jalen just had to adjust to the pro game I can see him being a 20+ player in the next 2 seasons. He will improve drastically the next 2 off seasons

Marcus Smart comparison is interesting. We know that Mark Few thought both were great leaders (coaching Jalen at Gonzaga & Marcus at some level of Team USA).

He takes away lazy passes. He knows where a ball handler wants to pass and will cut it off leading to turnovers.

Don’t see what the raptors would give that the magic would want. But it would be a fun storyline.

Ever since the draft I have this feeling that Raptor fans wanted Suggs to be their guy but team decided to go with Barnes instead and they aren't happy with him.

@@Nvme18that is exactly the story line. So Raptor fans troll us Magic fans trying to downplay Suggs and over hype Barnes. Suggs is playing like the player we all thought he was.
