Jake Shimabukuro on Using Pedals with the Ukulele
Музыка
Jake Shimabukuro has brought a level of virtuosity to the ukulele that has rarely been seen. Jake was kind enough to sit down with Reverb and discuss his effects board and how he applies it to his ukulele. Read more at Reverb: bit.ly/2l7ypiW

He plays guitar better on a uke than I can on a guitar.
This is the first time I've heard Jake just talking about his music and stuff and it strikes me how calm and centered he seems to be along with being so simply eloquent. I'm sure it's an outward expression of his personality which maybe makes his artistry a bit more understandable. It's like you can see the raised and calm and very aware level his mind is travelling on.
He gets such an amazing sound with the ukelele, and that's a really drool-worthy pedalboard too. I find it really interesting that he hears a difference in his chain with the Ditto, I wonder if it has something to do with how sensitive piezo-style pickups on 'acoustic' instruments are, or if there's just a difference in how he 'hears' his instrument (wanting a pristine representation of his acoustic sound from instrument->amp, whereas on guitar our fundamental sound IS the electrified signal, already significantly changed by our pickups and electronics)
There are countless good musicians out there and many great ones but Jake is an artist.
Great stuff, surprised to see this randomly on this channel. Love to see the local guys doing it big, popping up everywhere.
Was a great sounding rig! Jake seems super cool too.
It sounds really good!
This is so helpful!
Awesome, thanks!
Soo much fun!
Oh man, that t-shirt trick is ingenious. I might have to use that.
I love these looks into non-guitarists pedal boards, interesting perspectives!
Salute sir..
It sounds amazing, Jake. My experience is that to avoid all harshness with or without effects I use a pickup enhancer at the beginning of the signal chain. Pickup enhancers such as TC Electronic Bodyrez (preferred option) or Boss AD-2 work great with acoustic-electric ukuleles, too. I wonder what are your EQ settings in the Henriksen "The Bud" Amplifier you are using in this video...but I guess it is one of the "secrets" of your great sound...

@@somerset8088 No. He is using the “The Bud” original version.
Badass
What's that pedal, with the black and red knobbies, off to the right of the board?
Can someone help me ? Is that used on a electro acoustic amplifier? I know nothing about amp.. I'm diving into it and I would like to understand, wich effect can be used on what kind of amp ? TY
This is cool ...
Impressive and inspiring, only I see numbers $$$ pilinhg up 🙀. That ukulele is stunning ❤, what model is it?
What was a first ukulele
He should get a Chorus. I can’t imagine that not sounding nice
Get a Boss GT-1 if you don't want to spend too much. Boss GT-1 has like everything and they work amazing well with ukes. More importantly the GT-1 is light and compact. Portable.

Thanks for the tip. I have several pedals for guitars but they don't work well with ukuleles. I have a Godin Multiuke with no pedals for this uke. Just exploring to see what's available out there. I do have a small VOX amp for the Godin.
He's a uke God !!
I've been wondering what pedal(s) to get to give my uke the sizzling sound qualities in those 70's era songs like in the song "Tighter and Tighter", and "Who's That Lady". Any advice?

Do Godin make a performance Uke? They should talk.
What effect pedal would you recommend for playing reggae with nylon strings?
Are you using metal strings?

Fender Smolder acoustic Overdrive
What Uke is that????
this seems like the tone not in the guitars its in the amps and pedels we use.
His pedal board is worth more than my car
The cost of the electronics is higher than the ukulele itself...

This exact uke would cost more than these pedals for sure XD There is Kamaka Jake Shimabukuro signature model though, aaaand you can't buy a new one already, so... yeah

rangga aditya You don't know who Jake is do you? Nothing weird about this guy
Are you trolling us with the "spice" pedal?
Dude's a monster
2:25 Jake has been programmed to say what he said about the Micro POG, but he is probably mistaken about the Ditto. The Ditto is true Bypass and analog-dry-through.
Ya but can you play Smoke On The Water? 🤔😜
He sounds great, but the natural sound of the Ukulele is taken away.

Purists argue the same about the use of effects with the guitar. Isn't the point of using effects to bring an instrument to a new dimension and add sounds otherwise not achievable?
Distortion ruins the point but pretty much any other pedal would work well.
Fake

Whu... what??... what does this even mean???
No respect for the ukulele.
What's the point, it doesnt sound like a uke any more.

+Justin. Well it sounds more like a guitar. With distortion that is. Other pedals would work better.

Every thing with distortion sound like electric guitar but true sound of electric guitar is "clean" the pedal is an option most popular in electric guitars, but you can use it in other instrument, like bass, keyboards... and now ukuleles
